Does your truck do this??

Hi, I have a 2012 f150 stx. I have posted in the past and didn't get a response. So here it goes:
Part one:

I want everyone to start their f150 and after it idles down(warms up). Watch your tachometer needle closely. Does it bob up and down slightly? Some may call it surging? Please let me know I would like to know if it is an issue or not.

Part 2: when my truck is shifting into 3rd gear it sounds bogged down a little so I paid close attention to the RPMs and after it has clearly shifted into third gear and I am still accelerating the RPMs lower then increase as if it's shifting again but it's not then once the RPMs reach that point it shifts into 4th And the RPMs shouldn't be lowering if i am still accelerating.

I can video it from an iPhone I just can't figure out how to get it on here. Thanks!!

The idling can be caused by your AC being on...as far as the shifting show us a video of that. Do you feel any noticeable power loss during that time?

the shifting and slight bog shortly after shifting into 3rd is the torque converter locking up.

mine will even do it if you put the shifter in "3" and mat the skinny pedal. after the truck gets up some speed the truck will lock the converter even at full throttle.

it does feel like a slight bog when it does it though. locks too early in my opinion. but the, the only ford truck i've driven that i thought shifted right was my 99 f150 4.6 4x2 at work (last work truck).

watch the RPM's at 5,000 in 2nd gear in this video. it is locking the converter at full throttle in 2nd gear. it's just what they do, on only in 3rd in yours and mine (2010 work truck)

Ok I'm glad that someone else had this happening and has a great explanation as to why. Thanks!

Now. I need to know what is causing my tachometer needle to bob up and down. This happens even if the AC is off.

How many RPMS is it fluctuating?

My truck definitely does the weird 3rd gear lock up. I kinda bogs too but I'm used to it now, it feels like it slips but not really..

What motor? My 5.4 always bobbed, but you're a 2012 so you were already past the time of the new engine line up. I had access to a work truck for a bit (2013 3.7 V6) and it bobbed a bit as well.

Holy crap that thing shifts at nearly 7 grand??

3.7 liters of fury, baby!

peak power is at 6500rpm :)

There were threads that talked about rough idle as well...they ended up solving that with plugs that were properly gaped. (0.30 for the EGOboost)

Hi Mikes150,

I'd recommend getting your truck into the hands of your dealer; they'll take a look and determine if it's behaving normally or not. How many miles are on your rig currently?

The needle moves hardly I don't think it would be more then 100 RPMs or so. And crystal my trucks warranty is up and have 51000 miles and I am resorting to the forum before having to pay the deductIble on my extended warranty.

Thanks for replying, Mikes150; I completely understand wanting to hold off. If you do decide to have your dealership look things over, give me a shout and I'll loop in your regional customer service manager. All I need to make that happen is a PM from you with your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, current mileage, and servicing dealership.

Crystal

Sounds like it's a unique issue. Can anyone walk me through how to upload a video of it happening. I have an iPhone 5s and will be using a windows computer.
