Sending Unit ?
 

Okay, I replaced the gas tank and sending unit in my 51' F2. Runs much better now (surprise). Anyway The gas gauge isn't moving, so I either messed up installing the sending unit (Thought I put it in the correct direction) or something else is wrong. I know I have several things that need rewired on my truck. Even though it looks nice, one of the previous owners thought it would be smart just to electric tape all the wires vice replace them since they were losing all the shielding.

So the question is Which direction does the sending unit go on the in Cab gas tank? and will Negative ground 6 volt make a difference.

Hey Joey,
A few questions back your way.. Does your truck have the stock gauges or after market? There are several different "standards" for the gauges & sending units. They need to match up. Example in our '50 we replaced the gauges with modern ones that read 0 - 200 ohms Empty to Full. We used a '70 Mustang tank with a sending unit that read 11 ohms to 78 ohms empty to Full. That didn't work - the sending unit & gauges weren't compatible.

We soldered a Universal Sending Unit on our's & now it sends it's readings from 0hms to 200 ohms matching the gauge.

If your gauges are stock & the sending unit matches - I'd look for the ground wire to be a problem.

I grew up in Cincy and ate gallons of Skyline and cheese Coneys...I keep a case of canned Skyline in the cupboard at all times. You can also mail order Graeter's to eat after the chili!

Stock gauge and bought a replacement stock sending unit from LMC truck same place I got new gas tank.

As far as skyline, I have one about 2 miles from the house. But I will have to say I prefer the root beer stands chili cheese sandwich. Not a hot dog fan.

Float end goes towards the drivers side.
