Can I put the factory tach in?
Hey got a 95 f150 xl 4.9 e4od 4x4. I want to put in the tach that xlts had in them in my dash. Will it just plug in and work? Or do I need another harness plug or something? My rear tank reads way past full too but Im working on that too. I think its an open sender wire.

You can swap in a factory tach but you will need a complete cluster from a '94 or '95 truck with an I6 and you will want to transplant your speedo into the new cluster to retain the trucks milage. The individual gauges plug into the cluster from the front but all those gauges except the speedo are unique to the tach cluster so you can't just add a tach to your cluster... in case you were wondering.

Sweet thanks. Guess I'll be going to have some fun in the junkyard! I figured I had to replace the entire cluster but I wasn't sure. I'd much rather have the stock tach in the dash instead of an aftermarket one mounted somewhere.

The '95 has a digital odometer, wouldn't the mileage be stored on the ECU?

Any 94 to 95 F-series(except diesel) tach cluster will work in your truck. The wiring harness lets the factory tach know if you have a V8 or I6.
Like Conanski said :"... swap your speedo onto tach cluster ..." to keep your milage and ratios the same. |
