Throttle body EFI by Quick Fuel

Just some information to share with you all. I have a 1979 f150. Wanted one for about 20 years and finally saved enough to start the project and finish it in two years. The truck has been completely rebuilt. Basically the only original part in it now is the steering column. It's essentially "new." Has 9 inches of lift and 35's. It also has a 400m built up to its full potential. Costed quite a bit, but it does everything I want and much more.

After a year of tinkering with the carb, I installed Quick Fuel's black diamond throttle body kit. IT WAS NOT EASY. The biggest issue was the two tanks and getting them to work with a single fuel pump. I had to have my all-knowing mechanic friend figure that one out .... I still don't know how he did it.

Anyway, you all should know that this thing is pure badass. Response time is incredible, I get better gas mileage as far as I can tell, and it always fires right up when you turn the key. The whole kit with labor is pretty expensive, but if you love your truck like I love mine it is well worth the money in my honest opinion. Just some food for thought for those thinking about doing something like this. I am more than happy with QF's Black Diamond kit.

Take the labor out of it and the input cost is more reasonable.

I'm running Edelbrock's E-Street EFI and the tablet interface and programmable features is awesome.

HIO so you'd recommend Edelbrock's E-Street? I've been looking into EFI systems and can't decide?

Thanks for the review Tekton.

You'll have to decide what is best for your situation. The ones on the market at this time include:
  • QuickFuel's QFI
  • Edelbrock E-Street
  • MSD Atomic EFI
  • Holley Terminator EFI
  • Projection III by Professional Products
  • FAST EZ-EFI 1.0 or 2.0
.. pics in my build thread linked in my signature.

Also look at FiTech EFI.
I have seen this system swapped for a carb in person and the whole swap took about an hour from getting tools out to putting tools away. It is self learning so no need for hours and hours of tweaking and tuning necessary. It can be tuned and tweaked for more specific desired results but isn't necessary. It is also a MUCH more affordable option than most of the other systems out there.

I am seriously considering this setup for my dd build.

I have heard good things about Edelbrock as far as EFI goes. However, I settled with Quick Fuel's black diamond kit. All I can comment on is how this has worked for me. And it has been working far better than expected. I have made few upgrades that ended up immediately delivering this must positive return.

Really appreciate HIO's comments. Hope this all helps others. This is an investment worth looking into and personal experience/stories are so helpful.

I would love to do EFI on my rig, but it'll have to wait a while (a long while...)

Looking forward to the long term reports on this.

I don't think HIO is using the Edelbrock Universal Sump Fuel Kits 3605 with his set up. The kit adds on in between the factory mechanical pump, and the throttle body, allowing the dual fuel tanks and the factory switching/valving to work upstream of the high pressure pump.

You're right... I was an early adopter and the sump kit wasn't offered when I placed my order (and waited five months to get it!). I'm using a straight up returnless system #3603 that, for whatever reason, isn't even listed in their website. :-huh

I looked this up, seems intriguing. $995 for their 600hp kit seems pretty reasonable, and the whole ECU is on the throttle body.

Ya its an awesome system and the price seems wayyyy more justifiable
