IPR Valve Questions

2004 6.0L:

Took IPR Valve out. Replaced with a new one. I have not started truck up yet because I lost a CONNECTOR CLIP to the injector. Getting that from Ford Tuesday 3/31 afternoon... but I had a couple questions.

1st, when I took the IPR out, the screen was off and pushed back against the opening to the HPOP. I understand it failed, but does this mean anything?

2nd, the o'ring closest to the top of the screen was off as well just sitting in the housing. I removed it. The o'ring had a nasty cut on the inside of it. See pic.

3rd, while taking IPR Valve off, I noticed the electrical connector portion was "loose" or shall I say moving freely. I could grab the connector and move it 360 degrees around solenoid. The metal sheath/protector around the connector also moved with it. (See pic: red marks indicate what was loose). My new regulator is solid. Nothing moves. The way it should be.

4th, is this Honeywell (00150213) an OEM part or should it be a motorcraft? I tried looking up the part number, nothing.

With all that I have pointed out to you, HOW SHOULD THE 6.0 BE RUNNING? Your response is appreciated. Thank you.

Crappy? But I'm still a newbie (a well educated newbie, but still a newbie)Seriously though, you have pieces to parts sitting (not on the part)how was it running?Crappy right, otherwise you wouldn't have pulled the injector, hope it all goes back well. I am interested in that IPR valve as well?Pictured is it standing on it's head right? The threaded holed end goes into motor. It looks worn out, I'd buy or pick a new one. On '04's the IPR is in the frnt/ top of the valve cover? Maybe a n-used one if your a little tapped out like me? Let me know what happs, best of skillz/luck on your fix man.

Honeywell is OEM for 03's

karter81 03-31-2015 12:03 AM

Tactical, Yes the threaded stud goes into the housing. And I don't know what worn out looks like honestly. I bought a new one. It's in now. Will fire it up tomorrow afternoon and post results. My IPR was found in the rear, drivers side underneath Turbo housing. Thankx man!

Superduty, I have an '04 but it was manufactured in 11/03. So does this make it an '03? Crazy to know that this IPR lasted 10 years.....

and the symptoms of my truck were bad starts, truck would just turn off, then turn back on 10 minutes later just fine, rough idle (sounded like an old locomotive...chug chug), give it some gas and it just sits there at 1500 rpm, etc. I hope this fixes it. We'll see. Could be chasing wrong fix......but glad i looked into this just because of the condition of the IPR.

I think it makes it an early 04.

karter81 03-31-2015 12:13 AM

Watson, yes that's what everyone has told me. Looks like Honeywell is in early '04's too.

WatsonR 03-31-2015 12:16 AM

2003, early 04 are same thing. In late 04 the ICP moved to the passenger valve cover.

and lastly, while putting everything together....

I found this wire connector that I did not disconnect. It is broken at the connector. Here is a picture. Can someone tell me what this goes to?? I do not have anything to plug it into that I can find/see. Thank you.

Had an EGR delete done? That is in about the right spot, but not 100% sure that is what it is.

Somebody is touching your truck and trying not to leave fingerprints.

King-bRanch 03-31-2015 10:52 PM

EGR looks like it's plugged in (his 1st pic) & if so my guess is it goes to this Sensor in the Air-Tube :-wink

Ok i found where the connector goes. It was hiding under that inlet tube up top. Pic is below. If this connector is not connected, what would it do to the truck? How would it run? What is this inlet tube for??

Not my motor. I found this pic online since I am not home at the time. But this is where I found the home to my lost connection. It was directly under and attached to this tube. What is this connector for???

tacticalmedic469 04-01-2015 04:20 AM

I think it's part of the ERG (Emissions) system? I'm not sure but it looks like the other MAS to ERG plug??I'll look on my truck and get back to you. I'm not sure of the date but as Watson said you have an early '04 build. I've learned from here, early builds had old style ERG coolers (round) late builds had updated ERG coolers (square)and the IPR was moved from under the turbo to the passengers side valve cover towards the front. There's some others just can't remember them all but I think those are the big differences.? There is SO much info here and peeps are so knowledgeable. My head feels like its gunna explode reading up on these true trucks. Hang in there man, there's help here, just ask.

karter81 04-01-2015 06:31 AM

Thankx Sean, yeah once i found where it connected to, first thought was an emmisions connector. I wonder by being disconnected if that cause my truck to go to crap. Stalled out at 25mph, automatic rough idling at a stop light near my house, sounded like a locomotive idling (chug chug), etc. Now I have a crank no start problem. Don't hear the injectors clicking, no sound of a pump engaging. Truck cranks but doesnt even try to turn over....:-roll:-roll:-roll

karter81 04-01-2015 08:29 AM

Sean, Here is a pic of the connector inside MY MOTOR. I just took it when I got home this a.m. Does anyone know what the name of this connector is and what it does? How integral is this connector to a good running truck?
