Not getting fuel after switching tanks
 

My buddies truck is broke down. He was running it when we were around 0 degrees. He was below a quarter a tank and switched tanks. The truck shut off and wouldn't start. After looking around I told him to check for fuel at the bowl and it is getting no fuel. He dumped some diesel 911 in and it was around 35 degrees. It still isn't getting fuel. I know the selector valve on the frame rail have problems. What is the best way to fix this problem? Thanks!

All I know is to get under there and have a friend switch tanks. You should hear a click.

I was having an issue with the gasser about a year and a half ago. I switched tanks and gave it a light tap and it's been working ever since. I wouldn't call it a fix but I'm not going to mess with it till it messes up again. Then I'll probably just run one tank on it

Did you try switching back? Does the fuel gauge change when you switch tanks? How much fuel is in the second tank?

I believe the second tank is close to full and yes he tried to switch it back. I'm not sure if the tank level switches when the switch is moved or not.

The valve and gauge switch at the same time electro-mechanically within the selector valve. So if the gauge doesn't change, then the valve isn't switching and visa versa.

There is a fuse in the in cab fuse panel, that controles the fuel solinoid and the gauge. I don't recall which one it is right now. A check in the owners manual will tell which one. If the gauge doesn't change when the fuel tank selector switch is moved, the fuse may be bad.

It shouldn't be a quiet click,but a fairly noticeable slam. they do jam up, I had to dismantle,clean and lube mine,then it worked, some have broken pieces inside, so they cannot always be repaired. Mine would siphon fuel off one tank and return it to the other. Same valve on IDI's, and carbed 460's. Pollock made the valve for Ford.
