Lost a locking hub
Not sure exactly when or where... but I lost my drivers side front locking hub. Below is a pic of what's left. Is it dangerous to drive? Can someone point me in the right direction for a replacement? I thought about changing them out for something new that matches my wheels anyways. I have no idea what models fit though...
84 f350 4x4 if that matters. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...62b1de39dd.jpg |
I wouldn't drive it like that, you'll get grit and crap inside the mechanism and then will be taking it all apart to clean. Did the attaching bolts shear off?

It matters, your truck takes the bigger hubs since it's a f350. Just go to the local auto store and buy some. You can buy cheaper plastic ones, or higher priced metal ones. Warn is a popular brand.

Steer clear of the mile marker hubs. They have a bad habit of breaking apart in the first few miles.

Safe to drive? Well the tire won't fall off or anything. But it'll let junk into (and out of) the hubs and bearings, so I certainly wouldn't drive it like that except in an emergency.

Hey guys.... wouldn't this work for now? i'd rather not spend $300 if i don't need to.

I recently installed Warn Premium 20990 D44 hubs (the full twist kind)
They were $101 from Amazon Prime. Those 30 spline 50/60 hubs are pricy! |
Warns do seem to be about the most expensive hubs out there, and a lot of people have good results with less expensive alternatives. But all I have experience with is Warns. I've always liked the Premiums, except that they are a little hard to get a good grip on when wearing gloves. I had a set of Warn Standards for a few months. They have a spring that snaps them to the locked position and a detent that holds them unlocked. One of mine would often lock itself when I didn't want it to. I was able to return them and get Premiums again instead.

I had Superwinch hubs on my truck for many, MANY years.
It was only a bad U-joint that broke the splines out of one, back in October. They were not 'the best', and those stupid tuliped Allen screws were a pita, but they were cheap and worked fine for me. |
Got the warn standard hubs. I just finished getting the drivers side one on. Getting the new locking ring on was a bit of a pain in the ass but overall I'm definitely glad I didn't pay someone to do it. Hopefully the old passenger side hug will come off without too much trouble. They definitely look better with the wheels i must say.
