Finally came!! Pics of my 1950 Ford F2

Here are the recent pics of my truck. Just got in my driveway today. Hope i do this right. Hoping to get the engine going 1st, then upgrade brakes. Not to worried about the body for now but for some reason the frame looks awfully short (which if so is a minor detail). Looks like its missing some knobs in the cab. I got the fan and mount. Let me know what you think, any advice would be great.

I apologize for the size of the pics. Not sure how that happened.

Looks to be in good shape. It looks short because it is. Prior owner chopped off probably a foot at the rear along with the back cross member when he added the hitch. BTW, nice Coop Country Squire traction tires, are they in good shape or old and cracked? Stu

They look like they are in decent shape. I hope the shorter frame doesn't ruin my chances of putting something on it. I was hoping for a box or script bed.

Seems like a solid cab and a good project. Are the cables from the dash to the front of the engine bay connected to something? I suspect it was a flat bed originally, based on the short running board. You'll have all kinds of fun getting this one back on the road.

I don't mind the challenge. Just worry about finding parts. Am not sure about the cables. I haven't had any time with it. I k ow its missing cables and knobs, terrified I wont be able to find them. One day at a time. Starting a list of order of where I want to start. Should be fun.

It must be a late '50 by the looks of the heater .When time comes for that portion of the build let me know & can make it yr. correct & totally functional . Great score & good luck . Remember rust on these old heaps is just part of the deal .

DocRoche 03-03-2015 07:27 PM

Thanks for the insight. From what ive seen the rust isn't bad. I'm more concerned with the engine and under the dash components as it appears to be missing some knobs and cables. A member gave me a great deal on a script bed but its 8 ft. Hoping I can still make that work with the foot cut off.

The cables look like they would be connected to the big orange knob and the one below it on the dash. One would engage the PTO, the other would lift and lower the bed, but the cables certainly don't appear to go to the transmission. It doesn't look like the hoist cylinder is there anymore, just the hydraulic tank is.

It should not be that difficult to scab a couple pieces of channel iron onto the frame where it was cut. When the wood bed stringers are affixed to the top of the frame, you'll not be able to tell it. BTW, it was not uncommon to cut the ends off a frame when a dump bed was installed. Grab that script bed if you've not done it already.
Solid looking cab, a good looking project. Keep us up to date on your progress.

Doc
You've mentioned a concern about knobs and cables a couple of times. From the pics, you are missing one knob that wouldn't be needed for a fixed position flat bed. As far as cables/connections, it I can't tell if the throttle linkage or starter cable are in place - everything else looks intact.

You'll need to clean up or replace the bezel for the ignition - you are a long way from concern for decor.

Looks like a good solid truck. You can have a steel supply shop press brake some channel to match the end of the frame and have it welded on, no one would ever know it was repaired. They could even form the channel for the missing crossmember. An 8' script bed would really look good on there.

Hey Doc,
So..... What did the prior owner say about the engine? Did he say it was running?

Nice looking truck over there in cooold Pennsylvania!
