ExtraCare Pricing

Well, with all of the pros and cons, I think I have decided to buy the Extra Care extended warranty. This is for a 2012 F250, 4wd, XLT plain Jane with the 6.7. I am running about 13k per year with about half of the miles towing. A quick search has given me the following pricing for a $200 ded:

<table width="251" style="width: 188pt; border-collapse: collapse;" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"><colgroup><col width="131" style="width: 98pt; mso-width-source: userset; mso-width-alt: 4790;"><col width="63" style="width: 47pt; mso-width-source: userset; mso-width-alt: 2304;"><col width="57" style="width: 43pt; mso-width-source: userset; mso-width-alt: 2084;"><tbody><tr height="20" style="height: 15pt;"><td width="131" height="20" style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; width: 98pt; height: 15pt; background-color: transparent;">Extra Care</td><td width="63" style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; width: 47pt; background-color: transparent;">7/125</td><td width="57" style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; width: 43pt; background-color: transparent;">8/125</td></tr><tr height="20" style="height: 15pt;"><td height="20" style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; height: 15pt; background-color: transparent;"></td><td style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; background-color: transparent;"></td><td style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; background-color: transparent;"></td></tr><tr height="20" style="height: 15pt;"><td height="20" style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; height: 15pt; background-color: transparent;">Troy Ford</td><td align="right" style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; background-color: transparent;">1960</td><td style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; background-color: transparent;"></td></tr><tr height="20" style="height: 15pt;"><td height="20" style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; height: 15pt; background-color: transparent;">Lombard, CT</td><td align="right" style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; background-color: transparent;">1864</td><td align="right" style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; background-color: transparent;">2129</td></tr><tr height="20" style="height: 15pt;"><td height="20" style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; height: 15pt; background-color: transparent;">Zigler</td><td align="right" style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; background-color: transparent;">1910</td><td align="right" style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; background-color: transparent;">2175</td></tr><tr height="20" style="height: 15pt;"><td height="20" style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; height: 15pt; background-color: transparent;">Flood, RI</td><td align="right" style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; background-color: transparent;">1685</td><td align="right" style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; background-color: transparent;">1950</td></tr><tr height="20" style="height: 15pt;"><td height="20" style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; height: 15pt; background-color: transparent;">Anderson Koch</td><td align="right" style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; background-color: transparent;">1845</td><td align="right" style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; background-color: transparent;">2135</td></tr><tr height="20" style="height: 15pt;"><td height="20" style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; height: 15pt; background-color: transparent;">Champion</td><td style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; background-color: transparent;"></td><td align="right" style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; background-color: transparent;">2075</td></tr></tbody></table>

I will probably buy the 8 year option. My question for the group, should I check any other dealers for pricing?

Is there a mileage on these plans.

I have looked into various plans and have found them to not be a good deal. Most cut you off at 100k and if you go beyond that WOW the $$$$ goes stupid, well I have a 100k power train warranty now or so I think????

ESP plans are available to 125k

powertrain (Incl trans) is to 60k,
engine only is to 100k

Check the diesel care option. I think they go up to 200k for 7/8 years.

The diesel care option does show to go up to 200K miles, but it covers only the motor not the rest of the truck or drivetrain.

I plan to go with the package that covers it all, too much electronics on these trucks that are priced pretty stupid when it comes to parts along, toss in labor and it makes it a no brainer purchase for me. I do however plan to hold off until my 36/36 warranty is much closer to coming to an end. Right now my truck set closer to 20months/23K miles. I got some time yet.

I think there is a price break before 12 months/12k miles and then there is a requirement to get an inspection if you let it go too long.

I also saw a plan that adds a certain mileage and months if it is past or near the end of the factory warranty. That almost seemed like the best deal since most of the extended warranties overlap the factory warranty.

Ford also offers extended warranties for 15 or 20 other makes of vehicles...:-huh

If I had purchased the ESP warranty before the 12/12 had expired I would have saved $100. When I do make my purchase for a 8 year 125K mile warranty it will have begun on the day I purchased my truck, not the day I purchase the warranty as a time line count down. But that's fine, that's just the way it works.

I figure that if I purchased the warranty at the same time I purchased my truck and then sold my truck 30 months later I would have received a pro-rated refund on the ESP warranty. If I hold off on the purchase and sold my truck 30 months after the original truck purchase, I don't have to worry about how much I would have gotten back since I still have it in my wallet to start with.

I'm not sure if I think outside of the box, or if I think like I was hit in the head with the box.

I have never heard of receiving a pro-rated refund, I know there was a fee to transfer to a new owner but haven't heard of a refund before, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist either.

I wait as close to the 3 year 36,000 mile warranty before I purchase an extended for the following reasons.

1) I may want another truck by then
2) my lifestyle and annual mileage may have went up or down so I know what plan to buy
3) I may get into a wreck and the truck gets totaled so then I would be out the extended warranty cost

If there is a refund option I may rethink number 1 and 3 though, so let me know if that is the case.

Just now check with my local dealerships GSM and the answer is yes on the pro-rated
refund

Yes there is a refund option. It also works like an option if the vehicle is totaled. I went through it recently when someone totaled my wife's suv.

When I traded in my 09, I was refunded balance on extended warranty

I can confirm the refund option as well as I had to go that route when I totalled my '13 F150. Paid $4000 for the warranty (200,000km bumper to bumper), had 62,000km on the truck and got back $2700 which was pretty lame in my eyes. I was only 2000km over the 60,000 bumper to bumper that came from the factory and they basically docked me $1300 for it.

Ford has to come up with a few more warranty options for the diesels if you ask me. I purchased the 7yr/300,000km warranty ($4000) for my 6.7 but as mentioned it only covers the engine and engine components. If I wanted to buy the bumper to bumper to 200,000km (another $4000) it had to be purchased seperately. Why couldn't they offer a comprehensive coverage of say bumper to bumper to 200,000km and then an additional 100,000 on the engine for 1 price? Even if it was $6000 it would have made sense for me to buy it. In the end I decided that repair bills for smaller systems or electronics are manageable but a $25-30,000 bill for an engine is a hard pill for anyone to swallow.

ESP

Just bought 05 Mariner V6, FWD to putz around town in since my 2011 SD 6.2, LB, SC just too big to get around in, but does a great job of pulling my camper. The Mariner has a few miles on it, but gets 26.6 mpg so far. Since it way out of factory warranty, I felt more secure with an extended warranty and contacted Troy Dietrich @fordofgreenfield.com. Troy did a great job and gave me a really good deal to boot.:-X04 Shoot him an email if you are in need of an extended warranty. I'm sure you will be pleased with the results.:-jammin
