93 E350 club wagon Inop Overdrive and Turn Signals only
Hi, read alot of post before I jumped in, 93 e350 club wagon 168971 miles, 3 days ago stopped and parked, When returning to leave found no turn signals, no overdrive. Everything else works, hazzards, brakes, windshield washers, all lights, no blown fuses, even just replaced them. There is no tilt steering on this van, Maybe in column bad wire? or grounded or bad o2 sensor i read? Id like to narrow my search, any help thanks..robby

When you say no overdrive, do you mean the trans won't shift into fourth gear, or the OD OFF light on the end of the shifter doesn't light up?
Shifts into overdrive, no light on switch, no turn signals.thx
There is a good chance the multi function switch failed. That is also the turn signal stalk.
Would that cause no power to the overdrive switch?, Also the windshield wipers work..thx
I'm not sure about the OD light. The flashers and wipers are both on the multi function switch.
The OD switch on the stalk has embedded LED's for illumination which might have failed however that would be very rare. I'd pull the steering column shrouds and check the wiring of the OD switch back to the larger wiring harness. Those have been known to chafe and short circuit.
Otherwise Mark's suggestion about the Multi-Function switch is very spot on. This should be a how-to article in the tech folder here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post11680007 |
Thanks a bunch, ill pull the shrounds and do a visial inspection..thx.

This is going to sound out of left field, but how about the clockspring? I mention this from a Dodge perspective; I had an 03 Intrepid that the clockspring failed on. It also killed the turn signals, some somewhat similar symptoms although it was the horn that was also hosed, not the OD light. Again, I don't have a Ford perspective, hopefully someone will read this and confirm/deny that as a suspect. It's just a shotgun thought triggered from past experience.
On Ford's the clockspring doesn't interact with any other component/system other than the horn, VSC (if equipped) and steering wheel air bag.
All other electrical wiring snakes downward through the steering column, basically "behind" or lower than the space the clockspring occupies. |
Thank you for the clarification, always happy to learn something new.
