F450 Super Duty Manual 4x4 Not Engaging

Hey everyone heres my issue maybe someone who knows more about these things can help me out. SO i have a 2005 F450 its a dump truck with 4x4 manual everything. So from what I understand I pull the lever into 4H position lock the hubs (turn the quarter turn Clockwise) and go. (im plowing snow) So the hubs lock and unlock freely, the lever pulls in the cab freely as well However the 4x4 does not engage. But the light comes on. I know this because I pulled up to a snow pile dropped the blade and only my rears spin. So considering It is a manual system it can only be a few parts. I'm hoping I don't have a transfer case problem considering they are Not cheap. Wondering if anyone else has any ideas or ways for me to explore the issue more before bringing it to a dealer. Any help would be great thank you very much.

More than likely your hubs are the issue. Jack the front up with the hubs locked and see if the wheel spins freely off turns the axle. Both need to work. You can take the hubs off and clean and lube them without even jacking up the truck. Just unbolt and wiggle them out. If you don't use the 4wd a lot they can stick. With the hubs unlocked and transfer case in 4wd you can grab the front drive shaft and try to turn it. It should not turn by hand if the T case is locked in 4wd.

lock the hubs in and then see if you can spin the front drive shaft with your hand.

Ok I will try this Monday morning. The 4x4 was Rarely used by the previous owner as the truck was only driven in summer. My next question becomes even though i can freely lock and unlock the hubs they could still be faulty? and if that is the case should I simply replace them with OEM or after market ones or try to clean lubricate and repair mine. Thanks

I think first you need to take one apart and diagnose.

OEM are pretty good.

Warn just started to make 05 and hubs.
