what symptoms would you expect from a stuck PCV valve?
 
Found mind pretty much jammed open and not moving. Replaced. But curious if its adding to my problems.

if open not much problem that i know of,,,, if closed could blow seals,, burn oil,,crud up valves,,had a pontiac one time didnt have pcv but had that oil capture thingie,,, it stopped up and blowed valve cover gasket and the main crank seals was glad to get rid of that car seemed it was being worked on every 2 weeks...........

It'll run rough, idle punky, suck gas and you'll find black soot inside the mouth of your tailpipe (finger test when it's cold).

If yall have been following my "problems" with this dumb truck you will remember poor fuel mileage and pinging. Been having to run high octane just to be able to drive it and it still has been pinging. Recently I got a code for lean on both banks and then the next day the intake temp sensor threw a code. Its also been consuming oil. When I went to get the temp sensor I also just as something else to throw at it picked up a PCV valve. When I got mine off it was stuck..but not completely closed.

Going to test drive tomorrow.

If this is a new-2-You used truck, you should think about doing a complete tune up...plugs, wires (maybe), air/fuel filters...check all fluids and maybe replace....and run the codes to find out what sensors are good and which ones could be faulty/dead. I also like to disconnect the battery completely for about 10 minutes in a new-used vehicle to reset the computer to factory specs and then give it a chance to relearn its factory settings (1-2 days) before I pull and look at codes again. Sounds like you have several things going on and codes might help you narrow it down. Where is it using/leaking oil? Have you gone under to see if the O2 sensors are there and hooked up? The EGR and PCV valve simply serve to provide a way for the running engine to get a cleaner burn rather than pushing a lot of exhaust gas and crankcase vapors out of the exhaust pipe...better for air quality, but your engine has to be in tune otherwise for it to really work well.

Good find on the faulty PCV & EGR valves. A good example for us to take the time to keep our scheduled maintenance replacement items up to date. Stuck PCV & EGR valves can mess with fuel trim, causing it to go lean both banks if the computer can't compensate with long enough fuel injector squirt time. Dirty intake manifold, plugs, driveability problems can result & if the EGR wasn't working as designed you should have had a trouble code for it.
Before the test drive, if you haven't already done it, consider removing the battery B- cable to wipe the corrupt fuel trim tables & cold & warm idle strategy stored in KAM, so the computer can begin to build new fuel trim tables with the new parts in place, then if it has an auto tranny, to maybe prevent some idle, or driveability problems, take the time to perform the cold & warm idle strategy relearn routine here & let us know how it goes. Had this truck for 7 years now. EVERY time I get a code I have looked into it, these problems have been going on for over a year now. Often with no codes at all for months at a time. I dont think the PCV valve has been bad the whole time...thought I checked it...but cant specifically remember.

Will be interesting to see how the oil consumption goes after getting the EGR & PCV fixed.

I had figured that I had some oil loss before the head job as part of the blown head gaskets. But afterwards figured maybe I had left something loose. But no signs of oil anywhere. Had been smelling 'burnt oil' smell after driving it.

Dont think I had pinging today. But its got 94 octane in it and is at a full tank, so will have to drive that out to check for MPG and then put 87 octane in to check for pinging again. That usually takes a few weeks as im on my bikes most of the time. Will keep yall posted.
