Question of the Week: Should Ford have used the Lincoln Navigator EcoBoost in the F150?
 

The 2015 Ford F150's premium engine is a 3.5L EcoBoost V6 with 365 horsepower and 420lb-ft of torque. The 2015 Lincoln Navigator has another version of that same engine that delivers 380 horsepower and 460lb-ft of torque.

Assuming you used the premium fuel that the Lincoln requires, I'd guess you'd be pretty close to getting the same power in an F-150.

It's the exact same engine Patrick but with different fuel requirements.

And to answer your question, I don't think it would be wise to put the Lincoln tune on the F150, as I think most owners like the option to run low-grade fuel. I certainly do.

My concern is having to use premium fuel all the time with a more powerful tune on 3.5 EcoBoost in F 150. The tune now of 365 HP / 420 lbs Torque is great on regular gas.

Considering Car & Driver took a Loaded Platinum SCrew 4x4 w/ 3.5 EB from 0-60 in 5.6 and the 1/4 mile in 14.4, I'd say the current version is plenty powerfull without the need to run Premium gas.

And probably just a little bit of marketing hype for best in class horsepower and torque!

I bet just flashing the ECU on a F-150 would render the same if not better numbers, I think the guys are right, lower octane is better for most users.

Throw a tuner on there and I'd bet you'd get the same thing.
