this is where your wrong, the pathfinder tailshaft is the right length to use the 2wd shaft.
they were designed by pathfinder to convert 2wd vans into 4wds easier just pull rear tailhouse and install pathfinder one and its ready to bolt to np205 Is there any trick to getting the 2WD tailshaft to drive the t.case? The 2WD tailshafts I've been used to had U-joint yokes which obviously wouldn't work. But I'm not sure what the tailshaft of a slip-yoke trans looks like. I wouldn't think it would happen to mate up with an NP205 input shaft. Was there an adapter? Or do you replace the t.case input shaft with a custom one that does mate up with the tranny? |

Cool. That sounds like a good way to go if you can find it.

However the t.case will need to be mounted much more solidly in a divorced installation (the mount has to withstand all of the drivetrain torque rather than counting on the t.case-to-trans flange bolts for that). And you are limited to a t.case that is available in a divorced set-up, which is pretty much the NP205 until you get into heavy truck applications. So from a t.case perspective it might be easier to not go divorced. Overall, either will be work and either can work. edit: weird, I didn't add the link to the NP205. The site did that automatically. |

All 2WD trannies will have a yoke, either directly on the tailshaft or else on the shaft that slips in the tailshaft to provide the "slip yoke" function. So as far as the trans is concerned it's always easier to convert a 2WD to a 4WD by adding a divorced t.case - you literally don't need to do ANYTHING to the trans.

Thank you everyone for all of the useful info. I have found a reputable company on long island that may take on the work. I took some additional photos comparing the two RV's. Please let me know your thoughts on compatibility. Thanks,Chris

i hate barcodes. wish they never existed.

For what it's worth, the single arms on the '97 are generally called radius arms. The twin arms on the '08 are generally called upper and lower control arms. Torsion bars are used in place of springs (or more accurately, as a type of spring) to support the load. They don't locate the axle.

Thanks "Nothing Special", I am really not all that versed in the proper part names. I was just going with what I kind of new from a wrangler I own.

Thank you to everyone that has offered some info regarding this build. I have continued to search online regarding mounting the transfer case from the 08 on to the tranny of the 97.
If anyone has any other info I would love to hear it. This is what I have found: The Quigley conversion on the 08 has what looks like a spacer between the tranny and tcase. It turns out this spacer is really an adapter that quigley has created to allow the connection of a 2wd tranny to the tcase. Quigley doesn't want to spend time tearing down a tranny to put in a 4wd output shaft (makes sense, time consuming). Can anyone verify that this info is correct. Does anyone know it this adapter would be compatible between the 97 and 08? I understand that the trannys are different but are the 2wd output shafts and tail cone mounting holes the same. Thanks, Chris |
