jacked rocker arm

special push rod belonging to the jacked rocker arm

I tore into my truck today to replace, what I thought the problem was, which was injector # 2. After I got the oil rail out, I noticed one rocker arm was crooked and not sitting on top of the push rod. The other rocker arm was really jacked. The plastic retainer clip was misplaced from it's original position. I don't believe that the dealer that I bought it from (who "fixed" the engine prior to me buying it) replaced all the rocker arms and the bridges. Here are the pictures of the push rod and really jacked up rocker arm. What are some ideas on causing this? My truck also has brand new heads with about 5000 miles on it. Should I replace the broken parts and see what happens or what?

I've seen high RPMs cause this.

I never take my truck to high on the rpms maybe 3500 at the most. And that's for a very brief time

Did that pushrod come from the number two cylinder

Could be injector of blown it's tip off

Could there be a foreign object in the rocker carrier

BLADE35 11-23-2014 10:49 PM

It's an interference engine so high rpm could definitely cause that if it floated a valve

Did you get number two injector out

So did you get a diagnostic trouble code for number two cylinder

If so was it contribute DTC

A little more info would help was it blowing a ton of smoke out the exhaust

Also on that bent pushrod. One end may of not been in

My little brother did the same thing when he reassembled his 6.0. Pushrod got off to the side of the lifters and made a mess.

How long did it take befor he had problems? Right away or a few 1,000 miles down the road.

Should there be any play side to side in the rockers or should they be tight? U ask cause on my other rockers I have side to side play

I have seen this when I was a Caterpillar mechanic when a injector popped off and fill the cylinder with fuel and caused and Hydraulic lock. Now in most cases the fuel will drain out of the cylinder in to the crankcase bypass the rings after sitting. check and see if you have fuel in your oil pan
