Hope this works, watched the tutorial. |
Welcome to the forum. Great looking truck. Wild colors. Tell us more, please.
|
Outstanding. A big'un with killer paint and a gal's name on the hood? Holy Happy Truck Porn, Batman!
I'll just listen quietly while you tell Uncle Ray your truck's story. |
Welcome to FTE! Great truck....do tell us more about the history of your truck. I assume it is a dump bed.
|
Add my welcome. Wonderful restoration. Stu

Welcome. It's nice to see an old New England truck.
|
That's just beautiful. That's a New England paint scheme for sure. All my family's roots are in SE Mass so I have spent a lot of time out there admiring the beautiful trucks and how you all love them and care for them. Seems the Italian contractors like an old dark green Mack(freshly waxed), red wheels, lots of chrome and gold leaf name on the door, and wifes name on hood, kids names on the front bumper. Your truck really takes me back. Seems here out west most contractors just run trucks the way the factory delivers them. I applaud your sticking with tradition, and your true to the past restoration. You will find a merry band of big truck lovers mixed in with the 1/2 ton guys.

WOW!!!! That is a beauty! Welcome to FTE!
Tell us more about the history of that truck. Very cool. |
Welcome to FTE! :-wink
Mary Anne is a real beauty! :-jammin |
Since you asked here's the story,
I've bought this truck as an older restoration. A lot of work had been done but some of it questionable in quality. I had been chasing this truck must of the summer, I first saw it on The Craigslist with an asking price of $12,000! Way too rich for my beer pocketbook. Then it appeared on The EBay. The price was reduced to $8000 closer but still out of range. As time went by it was reduced to $6000 now with a little negotiation I'm in! I won't say how much I paid, but less than 6k. Now the history, I've found this information out due to the fact it doesn't have a title and as I am trying to register it I need all the info I can get. Tom Ahearn bought it new in 1948, it has been used in his refuse business. Tom is still alive, in a home. Ahearn trucking, Ludlow, MA was bought out by Waste Management or it's predecessor. The company no longer exists. Sometime after that the truck was restored. I have no before pics so I can only speak as to what I have uncovered. There is no bondo on this truck it's all steel, I have been under, around and in between and it looks original. The front fenders may be repop's but if so there is surface rust on them too. It has the original Flathead V8 239 and a 4 speed trans with a 2 speed vacuum rear. The body that was on it was a 2 foot high trash hauler, it did dump and is no longer part of this truck. Not age appropriate. I have shortened the frame, I know the purist will hate me but, it wouldn't fit in my shop. My plan is to put a period correct flatbed with a hidden goose neck hitch to pull my antique tractors to fairs. Coments, questions or concerns...? Let me know. |
Short bed

Still 9 feet back of cab to back of frame.

That is great. It is the right color for your Farmall... Are you going to paint the frame black?
|
Thanks for the back story. Good luck with the titling exercise.
As long as you keep your original oil filter, you qualify as stock - ask Abe about that one. |
A warm welcome from Northern Calif., Nice truck ya got there.
