I have a 1997 Ford F-150/Ext. cab 4X4, with smokey white exhaust, yes, I have a blown head gasket, all the signs are there, water in the exhaust, water residue on filler cap on the right head. I am going to do the job myself, I need some quick info. What is the normal cylinder compression? I am without a service manual at the moment:-X03

SERVICE MANUAL

Does anybody have a service manual for a 1997 Ford F-150 that they would like to sale?

We carry Haynes manuals here. Not sure if that would help you out or not. If you post this in the tech section, someone may be able to help you out.

The compression tests can vary due to condition of the engine. One thing to consider is that this test only tests the sealing of the cylinder (compression rings, head gasket, and valves). It dose not test the oil rings.:)

I should have also added that the important factor is that the cylinders are about the same across the board. Even if the compression is low if it is even the engine will run smoothly.

Normal readings should be in the 125 or higher range. Although I have seen many engines lower and still run smooth. A compression test is only one test and is more of an indicator that a sure diagnoses.
