OEM brake controller vs prodigy?
 

I just got a '15 F250 6.7 crew cab XL with trailer package but no brake controller. I can add the brake controller unit, or I can install the Prodigy P3 that I used in my last truck.

Is the OEM brake controller as good as the prodigy? Should I install it and sell the prodigy?

The OEM is golden. it makes the trailer part of the truck braking system. Works very well. It can be added and enabled by the dealer.


I would go back to them and ask how come it is not there if you get the trailer package.

Do you have the towing mirrors?

It's an XL model and the brake controller was optional. The trailering package adds the wiring so you can hook up your own brake controller. If it comes with the OEM brake controller already installed then it was added as an option by the factory. The truck came with the pigtail used to connect an aftermarket brake controller so hooking up my prodigy would be a simple task.

I checked and adding the OEM brake controller requires the dealer to "flash" that feature into the ECU.. so I'll have to make a trip to the dealership.

It did come with the towing mirrors. Not the electrically folding and telescoping ones, but the ones you manually fold and pull out.

I would add the OEM over the prodigy. Just a cleaner seamless operation that way.

My one ton has the OEM controller. I had a Tekonsha, I think it was, on my half ton and it was a little jumpy/jerky sometimes. I tow a 6000lb camper and the OEM controller is smooth as silk every time.
