Yes it's not just the mobile phones though, it seems to be anything electronic , as soon as the warranty runs out it stops working or doesn't function the way it was made , and lets face it just about every thing we use now days is electronics in it.

Yeah, they are getting good at it.

My pet hate is printers.:-arrgh:-arrgh:-arrgh
The bloody ink replacements cost more than the printer.
This means that economically it's better to throw the printer away
when it runs out of ink and buy a new printer.:-X15

Everything these days has a "design life", for example most regular vehicles are tested by the manufacturer to last for 10years and 250,000km. Our Trucks for example (because they are considered a commercial vehicle) are tested to 10 years and 400,000km.

These figures aren't just pulled out of thin air however, its all based on statistically how long most people own their vehicle. Same with mobile phones. Statistically the average person keeps them for 2years with their plan, then dumps it for a new phone with their new plan. As such, they are only designed to last 2 years, could they make them last more? Sure, but the phones would be more expensive as they have to have more robust testing and materials used. They would also be slower to market with new technology as it takes longer for them to test for it to last a given time.

Anyhow, what I'm saying here is its just as much the average consumers fault as it is the companies making them. If we demand/expect and only buy products that last a long time, companies will make them. We obviously all drive vehicles that are designed to outlast the average car, perhaps we can all find phones that are the same.

Here here!!:-X22:-X22:-X22
I have an old Nokia, had it for several years, does more than I need.

Things a phone needs to do:-
Recieve calls
make cals
SMS is handy
storing phone numbers
set reminder alarms is great for those of use with worn out memories.
Bluetooth for hands free in the car.

Thats it, anything else is a complete load of BS.
I don't need a camera, internet access, music player etc etc.

The new ones even have fingerprint recognition "security".
Now the NSA has the finger prints of all the fools that use this "feature".

My biggest fear is that one day my phone will die and I wont be able to buy anything that is not pack full of all this unnecessary crap!!:-arrgh
