My new 2015 super duty first impression

OK, I traded in my trusty ol 2005 6.0. i had an Amarillo short bed crew cab 4x4 automatic. before i bought that one way back in 05, I owned a 2001 cc short bed 2wd manual and before that a 2000 extended cab short bed 2wd manual. My best buddy had a 1993 7.3 non turbo manual that we used and abused as a work truck for years.
Soo, lots of diesel experience. The 93 lasted 400k miles and sold while still runnning strong. leaked oil, had to replace the alternator and start along with the tensioners more than once but overall a good vehicle..slow, but strong.
the 2000 was a good truck but my family out grew it in the 13 months i owned it so traded it for a crew cab that i drove for years.
The 2000 and 2001 trucks got 24 mpg all the time when empty. I have been a commuter driver for years and a weekend warrioer pulling campers and such on the weekend. The trucks would get 10 mpg pulling loaded 10,000 pouind trailers, 13 mpg puliing my 6x12 with motorcycles in it and 24 empty back and forth to work.
Since my dad worked at Ford for years, i always got into the trucks at a decent price. he convinced me in 05 that the 6.0 problems were worked out so we both bought one.
I got a the 4x4 because the 2wd trucks were helpless as soon as we left the pavement. i also got an automatic for the kids were learning to drive and i wanted them to be able to get around without wrestling the stick in the truck( yes, they both can drive manuals now).
The 6.0 got 18 mpg commuting, and about 10 pulling the camper. not great but for a 4wd automatic, i can't complain. the motor was strong and made quicker power than the 7.3
Since i used superchips in the 7.3 with a mild tune, i added a bully dog to the 6.0 to help towing. not a lot of tune but enough to keep it from turbo farting when pulling heavy loads.
At 132k, the 6.0 oil cooler cracked. i also had to replace the y pipe and did an egr delete at the same time. Otherwise, she ran good right up to 190 when i traded it in.

sorry for the long back story, but I wanted to really compare the 2015 i just bought back to these trucks.
I cant remeber the prices exactly but the first truck was around 22k, and they gave me around 17 trade in 13 months later for the crew cab which was about 26k. The 2005 4x4 was 34k and i got around 16 k on my 2001 trade in.
I got the 2015 xl Fx4 cc, long bed. it has vinyl interior, no carpet, no nav but has the media , phone, sync, etc. Karl Klement has a few of these program trucks, both long and short bed, on sale in decatur texas for 39,644 which is what i paid. they gave me 8 grand trade in on the yeelow 6.0
again, this is information, not about a good deal or a bad deal. I am happy with it and that is all that matters.
I got good use out of all of the trucks i have had. the 2000 extended cab was a short timer only because my kids grew out of the back seat. All of these trucks with the exception of the 2000 went over 100k miles.

Now, First impression-
the power of the 440 hp truck is very impressive. I haven't hard throttled it yet as i only have 350 miles on it but just rolling onto the freeway to come to work you can tell it is there.
The motor is so quiet. My 7.3 were load, the 6.0 even louder. You cannot tell that the 6.7 is a diesel from the cab or from standing outside of it.
The ride so far is fairly stiff. Mine is a 250 fx4. The ride in the short bed was rough with no load but throw a motorcycle or 2 in the back and it would settle right down and was great pulling the trailer. I haven't had any load or trailer on the 15 yet.
the dash is impressive. Not liking the switches with no power or wire but will soon play with those. the computer has a lot of ifno, the Mykey deal is coo but needs programmed. i got my phone synced and able to make calls with a push of a button and a voice command.still alot to learn.
The great lie o meter says i am about 19.4 mpg but when i checked my first fill up at 200 miles(no i didn't need fuel but wanted to do the math) i was about 16.5. i filled it entirely and will continue to check mileage vs fuel use to see actual mileage.
the jake brake, hill assist and locking rear end stuff looks cool and will be checking when pulling and off road to see what gains there actually are.

so, first impression is good. Love the sound, the feel and the power and the stripped down truck is still fairly luxurious for an ol dirt bike rider like me. Got several winter trips planned beginning in 3 weeks plus a trip from ft worth to KC pulling my harley in the 6x12 so i can check economy for sure.
I hope to get 10 years of use out of this one as i did my 6.0 and that supposedly wasn't even a good motor....

sorry for the long read but trying to give real life feedback

Thank you for your feedback. I am reviewing the links now. i will definitely contact your regarding usage once i read the manuals and play with it a little more. My plan is to provide feedback on all aspects of the truck. I have found over time that a lot of these forums get caught up with problems and as stated, with a few exceptions, my 6.0 was a great work truck. I tow every weekend and commute a lot at highway speed along with lots of projects and hauling.

Trust me Jaclyn can help. I had a weird issue with my '13 that she diagnosed and cured by having me download a new version of the software. Easy fix. Glad she was around!

Well, i got asked to work a little ot this weekend so i haven't been able to add much to the impression of the truck and I haven't followed up with jaclyn yet but I did drive intonight. My fuel according the great lie o meter( not my term, lolo) has shown averages ranging from 19 to 15 and right now I am at 17.6. i did fill it completelt earlier in the weekend and down to around a half a tank so i will fill to check actual mileage. Since I have 450 miles only on it, i realize that it isn't even loosen up yet.
Another thread was remarking about steering. I have to say, I was really happy with the 05 truck as it never had another steering issues, still had original brakes, etc. The new truck feels like it should, brand new. No wobbles, pulling or anything unusual.
Still driving easy on the motor but man, there seems to be some snap after a little turbo lag and speeing up oin the highway takes milli seconds. Can't wait to get a few miles under it so iu can pull my trailer. Yes. i will have some pics coming.
Very happy so far with my truck!

Black grill. I had to replace my 05 Ford emblem as it lost color after a few short years. also lost the black on the inset of the f250 badges on the older truck after a short time. Hoping this is improved.

Thanks for your kind works, guys!

Jaclyn :)

Ok, filled it up today. the computer showed 18.2 mpg avg
I went 505.5 miles and used 28.7 gallons of fuel for an actual average of 17.613
Truck only has a little under 700 miles on it.
No regens yet
most driving so far on i 35 w from Burleson to North ft work just off 287 for my job. 30 miles one way with some city driving...

94ruck 10-31-2014 04:26 AM

Topped the fuel off today, average down to 16.8 but more city driving in the 250 odd miles i drove. I topped it because we are finally going to tow our toy hauler Saturday morning. I need to hit the scales with the trailer loaded to see what weight we are at( tongue pull small toy hauler). yes, i have way more truck than i NEED but it is what i wanted for sure.
Still haven't had a chance to follow up with Jaclyn on the sync as I work nights but I am going to do so as I have some questions on sync vs bluetooth, syncing ipod and other phones...
920 miles on the truck, no regen yet
