MAX TOWING

so i have a 95 F-150 with the 351 5.8L with the e4OD exstanded cab 6.5foot box 4x4 eddie bauer. MY truck looks to have a HD hitch but what is the max tow for these trucks (Hitch Pull). also this truck had a Fith wheel what could you tow if i had it again. (i was also told i had HD rear leafs) so dose anyone have factory specs and or there own 2 cents?

Also what have you towed?

I believe the max GVWR for that truck in '95 was about 12k pounds. That includes the weight of the truck and it's cargo. With that in mind, figure between 5k and 7k being the MAX you could legally tow with that truck.

Tow ratings are in the owners manual. With 3.08 gears your truck has a max combined(GCWR) weight rating of 10k which realistically means once the truck is loaded with people and luggage your trailer can't weigh any more than about 4k. The axle gearing is killing it for you, with 3.55 gears it would have an 11.5k rating and with 4.10s it would be 13k.

I don't know what Ford was thinking putting 3.08 gears in a truck like this, if I were you I would put a 3.55 or 4.10 swap on the very top of your mods list.
