79 F250 Full Time 4wd? Rare truck?

I scored a "barn find" - 2 owner truck.

I've never seen a full time F250 in my life. I've owned several '79 150's in my life - but new to the F250 game.

I'm curious to see what guys mostly swap into the front ends of Dana 44 trucks? Do you guys find '79 Dana 60's, or is there some other year/front end that is just as heavy as the 60, with the same diff placement?

I'm thinking this truck is super rare, but don't know. Maybe I should leave it alone, as it's been garaged all its life... with 75K original miles.

Sorry to say, I bet it is NOT a 79 but an older 73-early 77 with a low pinion D44 front axle and a chain drive NP-203 transfer case. But ya never know. So it does NOT have lock in/outs on the front axle and has a full time transfer case shift pattern like this? NP 203 on left, 205 xfer case on right.

Finding a actual 78/79 kingpin D60 is a $1000 to $1200 discovery, most of the time. The D60 swap in, is not all that for a DD, unless you are wheeling/off roading the heck out of it and breaking the D44 stuff.

Welcome to FTE post a pic of this find.

Dont listen to that guy, he's smoking crack. D-60 stuff is cheap and pretty much everywhere. There are three front d-60s on Craigslist here for about $150 that have been there for months.

In the spirit of helping a new guy, I'd offer to buy the D-60 (If that's what it is) for $300 plus shipping.

Welcome!!

Really, though...disregard this post. I am drunk.

I seen those "D60's" on the Waco craigslist and 2 are old style enclosed u joint D44's. And the other one is off a Super Duty with unit bearings, so FAIL. :-X19 lol

You should of put a post-it on your computer screen before you went out drinking that says "If drunk and reading this, go to bed ya drunk arse".
Hope you have a hang over in the AM. :-drink :-partybud :-X13

Full time 4wd was quite common in 78/79. My first F-150 and Bronco were full time 4wd, both were 79's. Mile Marker makes a kit to convert it to part time, but if you are going to swap a D60 in it you will also need to change the transfer case as well to a part time model.

I can't say for sure how "rare" it is but full time 4WD was available on the '79 F250.
Here's a page from the '79 sale brochure.

Well I said in the middle of my 0.02 deal, "But ya never know", and so did I not know either, until now. Thanks mike.

As part of the 'ya never know', from the way that reads you could also get an F350 with full time 4WD.

ya not so rare as the full time 4x4 but.... what trim package does the truck have? if its a ranger lariat then its a whole different pumpkin. in my short lived life i have had 3 full time 4x4 trucks and have helped scrapped or took parts of many others. people like the range box off the t-case for the 203-205 double out of the fords. mostly the mated versions.
