Missing Pigtail - Here Piggy Piggy
68 F100 4x4 finally getting it ready to crank up but when I turned the key, I got nothing.
Stared at the diagrams and my harness for a while and then I saw it. Out of the harness, near the starter relay I have a black square 4 pin plug with the following wires Black w/yellow (from ignition) Green w/red (from Alt idiot light which I don't have) Yellow/green (from horn relay) Yellow (Assuming other 1/2 of Ammeter wiring w/4 amp fuse) I did use a jumper wire and went from the Black/yellow wire to + Batt and got the motor to crank. Can anyone confirm that that is what the Yellow wires are for? The diagrams don't show a 4 wire plug with all of those colors, but do show a separate 2 wire plug for the horn wire and a 4 wire plug but not with the horn wiring going through it. If I can't find the pigtail, I think I will just cut this end off and splice in separate wires going to their proper connections. |
Found my missing wiring. I left it connected to the donor alternator and voltage regulator so that I wouldn't misplace it.
The difference between what is in the truck and this donor wiring is that currently in the truck, there is a white/black stripe wire from the stator of the alternator to the S post of the voltage regulator. The donor wiring (which goes with the rest of the harness) does not have this white/black wire. The S post on the voltage regulator is connected to a green/red stripe which goes back to the red/green stripe to the ignition/coil +. Why the difference in wiring? Should I connect a wire to the Stator post of the alternator? If so, where would the other end terminate? |

This is the diagram I was going by. I have a solid state voltage regulator and no field relay. The Green/Red wire #904 runs from the S post of the VR and down to the ignition Red/Green coil + wire. What is the purpose of the Stator post on the alternator? |
Actually not. The #904 green/red stripe wire goes to the dash. Gauge or idiot light. The wire leading to the (+) terminal on the coil is curcuit #16. red/green stripe.

I just had to check on that wire(green/red) and I traced it from the voltage regulator(S) back to the ignition switch. I did measure 12 v on it with the truck running.
