The original part of the mirror is a bright, low mount swing away mirror… not sure what the other black stuff is nor the slide out part… that isn't factory.

I would think you could find the original parts at your local JY.

i have never seen anything like that from Ford. it looks homemade to me

Those mirriors are from late 80`s f150.The black parts don`t belong. Neither does the xtra alum. Piece just below the mirror. Somebody modified them so that they can be extended.

As others have said, there are non-stock parts in the pics. But the brackets and heads look like the stock mirrors on my '97 F-250HD. They are available new from Ford. Driver's side P/N is FOTZ-17696-B, passenger side is FOTZ-17696-A (those P/Ns include the bracket and the mirror head). But they ain't cheap!. Driver's side was something like $130, passenger side about $190 (I could be off by $10 or $20 on those values).

The extendable part is what I would like to find new. Where I grew up and older fella had them on his F250. He has passed on and I have moved away, but I thought of him the other day and this is the only picture I could find of what I'm looking for. His were machined out of aluminum and matched the brushed look of the arms. The hard part is know what to call them. Thanks.

and that is the part that ford never offered as OEM or optional equipment.
it was either some aftermarket thing or home made.
the ford version of the optional tow mirrors back in the 80's came standard equipment on crew cabs, and looked like this:

i have also heard these mirrors referred to as three point mount mirrors.

I did a "poor man's" version of that this summer. It was quick, cheap, easy and effective. It doesn't let you slide the mirror back and forth, but it's just 2 bolts per side and it holds it securely. Here's a thread where it got discussed a little.

Those are aftermarket auto parts store mirrors with moveable arm for towing . I have the identical mirror setup minus the Towing extensions. Someone installed these on my 66 F100 now I have to weld up some holes

That extension piece is by Extend-A-Mirror. Try this sitehttp://www.extendamirror.com

My mistake, they apparently don't sell the extender piece anymore, only the bracket, you'll probably have to fab that piece yourself.:
