77 ranchero shift cable... Need new one
I just got my 77 ranchero back on the road.
It figures that after I drive this thing for 2 years, without issue, I swap in a 4.6 and 4r70 trans.... And the shift cable snaps off. Who sells a shift cable?? I've called my local parts stores without luck. Are there any online places I can be pointed to. Thanks |

Alternate: Rig up a mechanical shift linkage. Sometimes these things are inevitable with very old rigs. impish |
Fabricating something isn't an issue.... It's having to redesign something that I already made perfect, because of lack of replacement parts.
I called the parts store back and asked for a 77 tbird shift cable, which the had a listing for and could order. Are these body style rancheros the same as a tbird of same year, or are they different enough to not be the same. |
Are there any other cars with a similar shift cable?
LTD, or thunderbird. The ranchero is based off some other platform, I'd hope that something would interchange. |
D7OZ-7E395-A .. Shift Cable / Obsolete
1973/76 Torino/Ranchero C4 & FMX / 1977/79 LTD II/Ranchero C4 & FMX 1975/76 Torino/Ranchero C6 / 1977/79 LTD II/Ranchero C6 / 1977/79 Thunderbird/Cougar C4 - FMX - C6. LTD II is not an LTD, it's the idiotic name that Ford replaced Torino with in 1977. |
Thanks!!!
I appreciate your input. I posted in the 87-96 truck forum also, I wasn't sure how much exposure this small subforum got. Now to keep searching for this elusive shift cable now that I have an official part number. |

Now to keep searching for this elusive shift cable :-huh now that I have an official part number. See post 5 for the D7OZ-7E395-A applications. |
Sorry about that. I did say that I could get a tbird one, but when I actually called to order it they said no. With the ford part number, the same people could actually get one if I prepay. So far o'reilly says they can for $100, but advance says no and Carquest says $175. I gotta call napa and autozone now just in case they are cheaper. I have never bought from o'reilly so I'm checking other options before I do it.
