223 push rod cover

does anyone know what the torque is on the push rod cover bolts, thanks

teardropty 08-25-2014 04:58 PM

It's been awhile but not very tight, MAYBE 15-20. Someone with more definitive answers will be along soon. Sadly many of the push rod covers on the 223s leak regardless of having a new gasket.

Yes, Im finding that out, was just seeping and changed gasket and now its a leaker! Didn't tighten it very tight either

I looked up for a 300 six and it said 2 ft.lbs. so I'll go with that. Thanks everyone for your help

My shop manual list 8-10 ftlbs on the oil pan but nothing on the sidecover.

I would add a thin coat of RTV to w\each side of the gasket.

I will also do that! thanks

Honestly, I did away with my gasket. The newer Felpro gaskets just doesn't seem to fit the shape of the casting and cover. I used a gasket maker sealant and did away with the felpro. Also, watch the grommets that the bolts go through, the newer ones are a little different shape than the originals, again a little sealant helps. Good luck.

I will give it a try Thanks

after 4 tries I think I got it to stop leaking, ran it for about 30 mins. and still dry and no leaks :-drink

Congrats! I love the 223s but the oil leaks they have can be frustrating.

clintonvillian 08-29-2014 07:58 PM

what did you finally decide on to fix the issue?

69 f-100 aman 08-29-2014 10:40 PM

did away with gasket and used a good RTV sealant and let is set for a hour or so and then put it on,also put a little bit on each rubber bolt hole and just can of snugged it down and let it set till the next day.... So far its not leaking:-X22 Just make sure its good and clean and eng block is clean

yep, you did it right... gaskets are a pain on the cover.
