1953 F500 Crew Cab
Hello to all:
I am new to the forum but not Ford Trucks. In fact, just acquired another one today. 1953 F500 3 door Crew Cab. Was a railroad truck and originally had a wooden sleeper bed and crane for replacing cross ties. All that is gone as is the drivetrain. Have a look: https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...9ebc746524.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...4f877b81e1.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...da8f9259fa.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...c24f624a5f.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...2d93ed6afa.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...cf3c8ed284.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...e667eb3dec.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...528ff9975c.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...120a761f1c.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...da1db9357e.jpg |
Wow, neat truck. And welcome to FTE. From the looks of the grille you have a 54 truck. Show us pics as you rebuild it!
|
Welcome from Eastern Kentucky. That is a neat truck. I'm almost as intrigued by the modification on the right fender as I am the long cab. :-X22
|
I like it too! I was also new guy here a couple years ago, but 40 years fixin up old ford trucks. I'm really glad I found FTE. None of my friends on Orcas Island understand me. Now I found some friends I can relate to.

Nice truck find. where are you located?
|
Thanks for the welcome and posts.
Yes. Now that I look at it, the grille is a '54. The mod on the right fender was to make a step. Do not know if original but does not look added. I am in Georgia. Not really sure what to do with the truck. Have a '89 F600 with diesel; maybe a cab swap? With a flatbed it could be my farmer's market truck. |
Two observations:
the frame where the bed goes looks awful short. Were the frame rails cut off at one time? Guys do you think the door on the extended part of the cab look like the rear door to a panel truck? |
It is possible the frame was cut. The ends look a little ragged.
but do not think the suspension has been moved. Not familiar with the panel truck door of this vintage but the front and rear doors have the same shape. Guess it is possible the original manufacturer could have used readily available parts as opposed to fabricationing. Would make sense for replacement in case of damage. |
I think the rear doors for a panel truck have alot more curve to them and the window doesnt look right.
|
Cool Subscribing.

The door looks similar but is not from a panel unless someone went to a lot of modification,

The window doesn't look right, and the rest of the door is actually flatter on the panel.
and the door handle on the rear door? It looks like a 48-50 Chevy pickup door handle????? |
My guess is that door was made for that purpose. It fits too well to be from something else.
And you're probably a very long ways from worrying about it, but those are widow maker wheels. |
1954 grille; 1948/52 Cadillac hood ornament. 3 & 4 door Crew Cabs of this vintage were converted from Regular Cabs by Crown Coach and other aftermarket body makers.
