Heavy duty tire question
 

It won't be long and I need a new set of tires for my F350. The current tires lasted a whopping 20000mls... Those were installed by the PO though.

Question : I read about the Toyo Open Country Tough Duty tires. does anybody here has experience with those?

Alternative are there any suggestions for something similar to 18wheeler tires?

I had the toyo a/t on my 97 and when I wrecked it the tires had 40k on them still with good tread left.

When I worked at the 4wd shop we saw them regularly with over 80k on them. In commercial applications(delivery vehicles, hot shot haulers, etc)

I'm actually also thinking to possible do 19.5 direct bolt on from either a f550 or an older Rv. I think I might have a better chance of finding commercial tires in that size..

F550 wheel will not be a direct bolt on

My brother put 19.5 on his SD and he lost fuel mileage because the 19.5 tires are a lot heavier and a lot more expensive. Just my .02 for what it is worth.

I don't think fuel mileage really makes a big difference... I only get 15 at the moment anyway :-)

Are there any other disadvantages by going with 19.5 vs just commercial stock size tires?

I had a set of those Toyos on my 2500 diesel Dodge, they wore like steel, good tire; tho when the get down there their not nearly as good in the inclement weather. But that's on a SRW 3/4 ton, I think I'd check out the BfGs Brad suggested... IMHO, I think 19.5s would just be a hassle and like someone mentioned your tire selections will start being more expensive. Just my .02$

19.5s will get stuck on a wet noodle and they don't wear that great anyway

I use retreads from treadwright.com and they are awesome. wear like commercial tire because the rubber they use is way better than what you buy at the store. you can pick the tread, casing, the whole thing to what you want.i got the bfg tread and i love it.

Do you use them on the front as well? I think I would be a little sceptical about that

I got the toyo load E 35" I love them, quite, strong last along time.

Yes, I use them on the front. The technology has come farther since the old days. I am running 265/75r16s all around and they are awesome.

i would check with your local DOT before using recaps on the front.
they are against the law for use on steering axle in a lot of states.
