88 4.9 oil pan / rear main

So i was confident my rear main was leaking and the clutch was gone. I have the transmission birthed (my first - I'm handing out cigars) and the clutch components out and the flywheel ready to go to the machine shop. Everything went awesomely smooth :-jammin. But turns out the rear main is fine (I'm replacing anyway) but the oil pan appears to be seeping at the dip right under the rear main. From everything I've read the engine needs to be raised to change the oil pan gasket but is that safe with the transmission removed? Where should i go from here?

Edit: forgot to mention .. 2 wheel drive long bed

Hang the engine from a 2X4 that's laying across the back of the engine compartment… that will hold 'er up while you drop the pan…

Thanks, great idea!

Good news! If you already have the transmission and flywheel off all you have to do is lower the pan and snake your hand in to unbolt the oil pump and pickup and it all slides out towards the back with ease.
