hood gap?

OK what size gap do you have on your hood? the area between the hood and the body not the fenders. I have shimmed mine out far and still only have 1/8'' and it binds up bad. I have shimmed the hood up and out. the bolts are all the way adjusted to the front. I have arched the hood to reshape it and still can't get it to open with out binding. The hinges look good.

Here is mine... Its about 1/8" near the fender, then opens up to 1/4" near the center vent. It is also high in the middle.

Obviously its not as well aligned as yours, but it works.... Kinda. I never noticed it before, but if I open it slowly, it binds just a bit, but if I open it normally, it opens right up.

Anyone else own a truck and tape measure here? anyone have a hood that does not bind up when opening? I need your measurements.

Yours seems a little tight. Mine is 3/8"

hood gap?

Mike, Maltman may have a bit too much gap in his, but I would think 1/4" should work well. I don't have my hood ready so I can not take measurements, I have to replace the rear inner support piece that someone in the past thought to jump on, or something. I have a straight piece from a hood that was rusted on the front, so I am good, just have to make the change. I will be shooting for a 1/4" gap on mine.

Also, I plan to weld up and restore the holes the hood springs go in. Mine are worn fairly deep. How are yours?

Aloha, you have been a big help, thanks. :-X06

Sounds right Tony, the gap closest to camera in pic is actually 1/4", but opens to 3/8" in the center and caries that over thru the passenger side...whats funny is the "ridge" on passenger side of hood looked like it rubbed on cowl and maybe PO adjusted out to 3/8"...hope THAT helps and doesn't add to the problemo!!

I guess I will have to cut a slot to move the hinge further forward. It is all the way out and the hood is adjusted all the way out too. or maybe modify the hinge plate?
