fuel reset switch
When I slam the rear hatch shut, the fuel reset light shows. 95 Explorer.

Does it actually trip the inertia switch, or just the light comes on? What does it take to get the light to go out? Or maybe you were just making a statement and not actually looking for help?

If you don't feel that you are slamming the rear hatch abnormally hard, then you might have a structural issue that is causing excess shock to make it to the inertia switch. I'm not positive how the switch was constructed in the 1995 model year, but Ford inertia switches in the late '80's consisted of a switch and trigger mechanism installed above a conical magnet with a steel ball bearing. There really wasn't much that could wear out in one of those to cause it to trigger prematurely unless the trigger mechanism broke.
If you don't believe you are being too rough and there are no signs of structural damage on the truck (broken welds or frame members) then you probably need to replace the inertia switch. -Rod |
I'd replace the switch. At least take it apart and inspect it.
