94 bronco tranny issues
I have had a 94 bronco for a year now with the 351 mounted up to an automatic 4spd with overdrive(can't remember which tranny it is) anyways shortly before winter hit it was having what seemed to be tranny slipping hard shifts and shifts at weird times. I looked it up on a few pages and found out its either the tranny or a solenoid in said tranny that makes it appear the whole tranny is going out...as soon as winter hit I didn't have any more issues at all and it has just started to have issues again since its hot outside again....anyone know what it is or how to tell if it is this solenoid or if its the whole tranny being replaced and could the weather somehow be affecting it?

Check for codes..............:-X06
Probably solenoid, but check for codes first.............:-jammin |
Ditto on Jason's, 'check for codes'. Even intermittent issues should leave a CM code. (If you don't have a code reader I'd recommend getting one, although a paper clip can also be used.)
In your 94 the automatic transmission is the E4OD.... and it is heavy on the Electronic. Presumably your tranny is full on fluid, but *not* overfilled. A couple of things to read up on: Search for 'loose filter' and 'MLPS' and/or 'Limp Mode', and fuses: MLPS (Manual Lever Position Switch) also known as a Neutral Safety switch (auto parts catalogs seem to list under the latter) Loose filter, some symptoms are similar to yours, notably the intermittent behavior. Limp Mode- shifting is typically at higher RPM and somewhere between 'What the ___?' and 'OMG I broke it!' hard. Not even slightly subtle. Fuses #8 and #18 are tied into systems that tie into the transmission and other stuff. (I'm currently hunting one of these down.) You don't mention losing fuses so it probably isn't an issue... burnt fuse doesn't match with intermittent symptoms. :) Good hunting.... Nick |
so i used my code reader and assuming i used it right i got codes for EGR valve postion and EGO sensor .....im going to double check later this evening and see what i get....it didnt show any codes with the engine running just key on engine off.....which im not sure if its normal or not....

Could be as simple as a MLPS sensor. Sounds like you aren't keeping it cool enough too. Do you have an aux cooler?
