Question about '56 Ford Instrumentation

I wanted to ask if anyone knew what color the filters were in the instrument cluster for illumination on '56 year model fords? Was it blue like most Ford`s of the 60`s through 80`s?

I am not quite sure what you are asking. What filters? There are clear peanut bulbs behind the cluster that give it a dim glow to read the speedo and other gauges. There are also clear peanut bulbs behind the turn indicator colored arrows. There is another peanut bulb behind the high beam colored indicator.

Color filters, the colored pieces that is between the bulb and the instrument housing to give color to the light. I was curious if the filter was blue or green. I know Chevrolet used green filters in the early '60s, Ford used Blue and green in the '60s depending on model, but cant find any information on pre 1960 model Fords.

Mine is a 55 and there are no color filters...just the white bulbs. And I think it is the same with the 56

My high beam indicator has a red filter and turn signals have green filters. 1956 F-100.

Mine does too, but he is referring to the dash lights when the lights are on

Ah ok, Im stocking up on LED bulbs for converting my dash lights on all my vehicles and was going to do my '56 as well. If there was no color filters for the general illumination then I will pick up some warm white LED bulbs to mimic the old incadecent bulbs.

I hope to reduce battery drain when it comes to the lights enough to avoid the headlight dim at idle while keeping the Generator. I even looked at using H4 conversion housings and using H4 LED headlight bulbs.

Thanks for the reply though, I thought in the '50s Ford was using color filters for general illumination.

Halogen headlights need full voltage all the time or their life is shortened. Usually need an alternator.
