Trouble with putting in new radio...
The buttons broke on my old radio, so I go and get a new radio, match all the colors and connect them and viola, no power. I'm looking for a wiring diagram specifically for a 94 f150 with the factory amp but cans find any consistency. From what I can tell the light green/purple wire leading to the connector is what should have power, and it doesn't. The test light only lights up on the yellow/black wire and the orange/black wire. Then it lights up as we'll on the wires on the opposite sides of the connector. Please help I don't know what to do now!!

Another thing is the antenna is not yet plugged in, is that a crucial ground to make the head unit cut on? I understand it would not pickup radio frequencies without it but would it keep the whole head unit from coming on or getting power?

Hopefully that helps.

As far as the antenna goes I have had a lot of radios that would not work with out it being hooked up. I have had a lot that worked with out it hooked up. Best advice I can give you is to hook it all up and the antenna as well and then try it.

When I put my radio in my 1990 f250 almost no wires matched up color wise I had to match them up according to a wiring diagram of the truck, and the radio itself

Yeah a wiring diagram is your best bet, that's how I did it with my truck, no two wires were the same darn color so I had to wire it all up with a diagram.

Ok i figgured it out fuse was blown fuse in the power dist box not deliverin the power toward me. Thanks guys the diagram did help tremendously!

ok another problem guys.. my antenna wire wont fit into the port on the head unit. It is too large, but if I touch the end piece inside there the radio will work fine. It just wont go all the way in there. I tried looking for an adapter but nowhere has an adapter for an older truck like this. Can I just cut off the plug in pieces and strip the wire and buck connecter them together directly or is that a bad idea?

These trucks do not require an adapter look at the antennae and look at the hole on the radio they should be the same size. Of so it needs a little shove to fit inside.
