BURNT ANTIFREEZE SMELL
 

I have a 2011 F350 diesel 6.7l. I have had this smell outside the front of the vehicle for months and so I took it finally to a dealer to solve the leak problem. They spent hours on it and eventually found a leak in a tube at the rear of the engine under the intake manifold and supposedly solved my problem. That was 2 weeks ago and I have driven about 300km.(180 miles) but the smell is still noticeable. How long should I wait before it goes away or should I return it to the dealer for further work?

Is the coolant level going down?

Before the repair it was but slowly. Now I haven't driven it far enough to notice if it is going down but am keeping an eye on it.

I have a V10, but I had a leak under the intake a while back as well. I don't drive my truck very often so it took quite a while for the antifreeze smell to go away. It of course made me wonder if I had a different leak I missed. I would give it a little longer before I would worry about it as long as your levels aren't going down.

Check the seam between the tank and the core on the left side of the radiator on the engine side, notorious for leaking there.

That area seems dry and the antifreeze needs to drop on something really hot to get this burnt smell.
