What does FX4 mean?

I know this is a stupid question but I really don't know what it means. So what does FX4 actually mean?

What does FX4 mean?

Ford did it so that they could be different, they wanted to get away from gmc's 4x4 sticker thing. Ive heard that it could mean Ford by 4, or else it could just be four spelled out, ya know four X 4. I dont know, thats just what Ive heard.

What does FX4 mean?

It's Ford's response to the Z-71 package offered by the GM twins.

What does FX4 mean?

FX4 4X4 comes standard on this model. As I understand it, the floor shifter and the captain chairs are available on Lariat and FX4 models.

Are they available options or standard??? I don't really care for a floor shifter.

What does FX4 mean?

Z71, TRD, etc.... Companies realized that GM had a good idea with the code names for various suspensions, so now Ford came up with their own: FX4.

What does FX4 mean?

FX4 is the new way of saying 4 x 4

The FX4 is the classic Black Cab. While the majority are black, there is in fact no requirement for them to be black. Over the years, the FX4 has been sold under a range of brands.

9 years..... :-X22

Lol I couldn't help it and no one seemed to know.

And apparently no one still knows.

I own a FX4, in Blue, monotoned.
They can be had in a range of colors, blue, black, red, grey, white, in monotone and in two tone. They are mostly found configured as SuperCabs and SuperCrews. Some have cloth interiors, some have leather trimmed seats, and if you had leather trimmed seats, you could opt for the luxury package which included a power passenger's seat and auto HVAC controls, power rear slider, etc, etc, etc.

The FX4 is the only package that skid plates came standard on...you had to order the "off road" package on any other trim line to get skid plates. Generally the 3.73 is the most common ratio on the FX4, but 3.55's can be found here and there. The only engine choice for the FX4 is the 5.4L.

Anything else you'd like to know?

I always assumed it was
Ford
Xtreme
4 wheel drive

But yes I agree it's a answer to the Z-71 luxury 4x4.
Who even knows what Z-71 means...

Coskid 10-10-2012 09:48 AM

Chandler is right it is basically a trim package like the XLT or Larait but with some options that are not available other places except for special orders

dixie_boysles 10-10-2012 12:19 PM

ive always understood it to stand as FourX4 or Four by Four. Its just a 4x4 package

It's more than "just a package". It is a stand alone trim/model, much like your Lariat, or someone else's XLT.
It was the "off road" package/designation on the 97-03 model run.
