Hi Dave,
I think it's pretty hard to go wrong with all Motorcraft parts like Ford uses from the factory. I do know that I wont use Bosch or Champion or Autolite plugs and I wont use Fram filters. |

Motorcraft all the way !!!!!!!!! Except I do use a K&N air filter. You buy it once and never again. Just clean and reoil it once a year.

I must agree. Motorcraft plugs and wires are definately a great buy. Going with anything else is almost like wasting money. Bosch, Autolite and Champion are not worth it in Ford Engine. They don't last even half the time a set of Motorcraft double platinums would. As for air filter, go K&N. It is a bit pricey, but it will last the life of the vehicle (longer even). Plus, they claim it adds horses. :)

and the bonus of having a K&N is that you'll get good at cleaning your MAF sensor :)

Thank you to everyone, I appreciate your feedback!!!!
I love my truck, but I definately went wrong with our last Ford Car we bought. I have never felt so screwed! This is why I wasnt sure about Motorcraft parts. Thank you though, looks like Motorcraft may have to be the way to go!!!!! |

I never could understand how two filters have similar surface areas, but one will flow more air and filter better. Is it true or is my bs meter right?

Because the regular filter is paper and the K&N is cotton fiber. It is less restrictive. I have had one in my 88 5.0 Mustang for 144,000 miles and I have never had to clean my Mass Air sensor. I installed the filter with 9000 miles on the car back in 88 and it hasn't let me down yet. It did pick up 1/10th of a second in the 1/8th mile.
I installed one in my 2001 F150 and gained about 1 mpg and I will never have to buy another filter. I looked at it after 2000 miles of K&N filter use and the MAF is as clean as it was when I installed the filter. I guess if you use too much oil on the filter, you may have problems, but I never have. Jimmy |

I think that overoiling is the main cause of dirty MAFs when using a K&N but it also seems that in reallly dusty conditions they dont filter as well as a regular paper filter. That's just something I've observed on trucks that are driven lots on gravel roads....which we have quite a few of around here.

Well, I guess I will be ok then, I really don't get off-road much. But it's nice to have the 4x4 option when needed.

IMO, the ford dealer plug wires are expensive but way worth the money.

So the dealer (?Motorcraft?') Wires are better than the rest?

By the way guys, does Ford sell Ford Racing plug wires for F150's? If they do, would you really see a difference in performance or would it just be better stickin' with my Motorcrafts?

They have thicker insulation on the wires and may have less ohms per foot. You may see a slight increase in spark. Probably not enough to make a big difference on a mild or stock engine.

Hello,
I am getting engine noise when I have the AM radio on and there is something I now listen to on AM. It is irritating as hell. I am not sure when this started of whether this was stock. because I never use to listen to AM. Do you experience this? What is causing it? What is the fix? Thanks, Dave |
