1971 Ford f100 Ranger XLT I think,HELP

SO I just bought a 1971 Ford f100 Ranger XlT or which I Believe it is,It Has a Ranger red white and blue emblem on the bed and a ranger emblem on the glove box.Now the door panels are black plastic and look to be a lmc replacement, the instrument cluster has no wood on it but the lower area where the lights are has a burlwood,it has been painted black everywhere inside and is missing the heater controls and has had a aftermarket ac put in it also seems to be missing the burlwood vents under the glove area,it has no trim on the outside and just has the ford tailgate, here is the tag info.
it has a M6 where color is and a f103 where model is S 4 Body Help please thanks love this site

i believe he is wanting to know if he has a factory ranger XLT or if he has a half way cloned XLT i can't help much on the body codes but does it have any trim holes on any body panels? bed, tailgate, doors, cab or front fenders? does it have a tailgate that seems to be original to the truck? a 71 ranger xlt should have a woodgrain tailgate finish panel wide trim on the bump body line emblem on rear side of bed and on glovebox door. also should have woodgrain dash trim around gauge cluster and across the bottom of dash and woodgrain door panels are usually in them to. take a close look into these details that should help to see if its a real XLT

No, only the BODY code stamped on the Warranty Plate defines a Ranger XLT. VIN and Safety Standard Certification Label (glued to B pillar below striker plate) do not list this info.

It does not have the original door panels but it does have the ranger XLT on the dash.and on the bed has a ranger logo and the XLT is red white and blue,it does have the burlwood where the headlight switch is

It also has holes in the tailgate where it appears something was bolted to,bed sides have no molding whatsoever but it seems to have been possibly filled in,sandblasting will tell all i am assuming

Should it have the wood grain moulding on the side or no

williamwilliam 07-02-2014 08:26 PM

It should have the wide molding with the woodgrain and it should have the bigger woodgrain tailgate panel as well. It should have the woodgrain on the instrument cluster bezel, woodgrain around the bezels on the left and right side of the steering column, woodgrain plastic piece below the glove box (non ac) and woodgrain on the door panels. Also woodgrain on the "horn button" on the steering wheel.

Great,I am guessing the door panels will be impossible to find, along with the molding under the dash.I have found the side molding as well as the tailgate molding.Drip rail is really rusted im guessing finding a roof and replace it all is the best route to take? I hear replacing the rail is a hightmare and costly to do.

On the drip rail use the search engine top o' this page. Tons of guys have repaired and done sheetmetal work there. With pics so you'll be able to do what you need to do. On woodgrain stuff, the part number on the lower dash piece the part number was DOTZ1004334A. Discontinued and nobody shows one left. I've never sold one. I personally made one out of wood and veneer but I used 1969 woodgrain in my '68. 1970 and up woodgrain would be harder. The only person I think can help (besides JY) is Gangstakr with this and the tailgate applique.
