Ring Gear Size

I have an 2001 F-150-5.4-4wd-H-9 diff.

Looking on RA to buy rear axle bearings. How can I tell if the ring gear is 8.8 or 9.75. I have seen posts that said if the diff cover has 10 nuts its 8.8 but if it has 12 its the 9.97. I know there's a tag on the diff with codes, I'm hoping there's an easier way to tell than having to climb under the truck.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Get under and look.
Suppose your told wrong?
The truck had several options for size depending on model and build.
H9 is the ratio and open or limited slip ID.
Good luck.

9.75 is more egg shaped

all 5.4 equipped F-150's had 9.75's from the factory

Got bearings & seal for the 9.75. Pulled the old ones and discovered the the 9.75
bearings were too big. It took the 8.8 bearings instead. Go figure!
