help needed..are wheels interchangeable on any 87-96 f150?
 

I found a sweet deal on CL on some sharp looking OE outlaw ii style wheels that came off a 1992 f150 4x4. I am tempted to pick them up b/c they're cheap and put them on a truck when I finally find one b/c they look in good condition but I'm wondering if they would fit if the truck I buy didn't have that style on them already.......

For example, if the truck came w/ steel wheels, will the other wheels that came on XLT models fit? Also would a wheel from a 1992 fit a 1990 truck?

those 92 wheels will fit any year F150 except 97+.
Only problem you might have is if their isn't enough backspacing it will rub a bit depending on the tire size you run.

Thanks. I'm 99% sure they're factory wheels so it shouldn't be a problem w/ offset.

EDIT: What I am meaning is I plan on running 31's at the largest

You should have plenty of clearance with 31s on a 4x4. Not sure about 2wds though.

I'm only looking for a 4x4. The wheels are near my parents house and my dad is going to look and pick them up and I'll pay him later. Now I have wheels but no truck lol. What will probably happen is i'll find a nice one w/ good wheels then won't need these. Oh well the guy is only asking $150.00 for all four and the don't appear to have any rash or anything on them. Maybe a slight haze but I'm thinking a good aluminum polish will do them good but they're pretty good to begin with!

OK another dumb question. I bought the wheels and they have two red cap covers on two of the wheels and also the chrome center caps on all four, but two of the wheels DON'T have the red center cap covers. It's just a big hole but does have the round chrome center part that goes on the wheel. My question is do I need some new little red cap covers for those two or is that for the hubs? I'm not sure but I did find these for sale that are above but can't tell if the ones that are upside down have the caps or just holes like mine too. Can someone explain this to a newbie to 4x4s??

The ones with the red caps are for the rear. The fronts have to have cut outs so that you can stick your hand in and turn the hub to lock it unless you have auto hubs.


Unfortunately this is the best pics I have of hub caps (and they aren't the exact same ones as above as I have a different type of OEM wheel but you get the idea) on my 88 F150 (only truck I have with hub caps front and rear). You can see how the closed ones go over the rear and the open ones leave an opening for the 4x4 hubs.

If you are talking to me then yes they are factory wheels they are called chrome spoke wagon wheels. I love them they are my favorite wheel available my 94 Explorer has the same wheels but in black.

Yeah that helps a bunch and that's what I thought. The funny thing is I don't have the actual truck yet lol so I don't know if it would manual hubs or not when I buy it. I just know I wanted this style wheel and for the price and shape these are in I couldn't pass it up

I'm guessing though if a truck did have auto hubs it should have the red cap cover on it already in the front? I would probably switch out the auto's for manual anyways later but what would be there on the fronts if there is nothing to turn manually?

No you would still need the cut out ones as the auto hubs come just as far out as manual hubs if not farther.

The front auto hubs have an electronic piece on the end just like a regular hub that tells it to kick in.

Here are pics of our old 86 F150 with auto hubs and the same hub caps my 88 has. (Please don't ask me what wheels these are the previous owner had them custom made for the truck).

No electronic piece inside the hub. It does it mechanically as soon as the axle shaft turns a bit.
