Need help with hitch for my Flareside
 

Hi there,

I wonder if you know or can recommend class 3 hitch for my Flareside.
Recently I bought one (the cheapest and with good reviews) and it's Curt 13310. It should fit the truck with some drilling, but when i tried to fit it I can see that it way low and sticking out about 8 inches in front of the bumper. Plus the spear tire can not be mounted back to it's place.

Shipping back the hitch will cost me almost as much as the hitch, so i'm trying to sell it on the CL.

I would like to find a hitch that would look as good as on the newer trucks, flash with the bumper and barley noticeable.

I would appreciate it very much if you could help me find me the right one.

I noticed a lot of them are like that. Mine has a universal 3 piece hitch installed and they flipped the middle piece for more clearance. Wish I could be more help.

Something like this may need some "modifications" with a torch.
Don't think there is alot out there available for us With flaresides.
My 84' hase one on it right now and looks like yours, gonna put the plasma cutter to it soon.

I assume the problem is you do not have a step bumper like a regular truck? Most hitches are made to clear the lower step bumper?

You might ask around, there may be a shop that will modify it for you for not much money. Cut the center cross piece out, move it up and back and re-weld it in place. Then trim off the leftovers in the rear. The higher and closer to the frame the hitch is, the stronger and better it will pull the trailer. The only drawback is you will probably have to buy a dropped hitch for the ball for most small trailers, which I guess negates any advantage you might have with the hitch closer to the frame.

I like the paint combo.

Look for "roll pan" hitch
They are a lower profile

Or if you can weld, cut that one and weld it to suit your needs

You are going to buy another one and cut and weld on it? Why not cut and weld on the one you have?

My thinking was to make it only wider or narrower, the rest will be untouched.
I'm not the one will be doing the fabrications, i have to find someone...
