Junkyard truck?

Dear All,

I hate to admit but my beloved 1996 F250 is dead. I have a new-to-me 1996 F250 but I need to get rid of the old one. The glo-plug broke and ruined the engine. Does anyone here have a suggestion about what I need to do? Call a junk yard or call a scrap place? I could see if anyone wants to buy it as is and fix it up-but would anyone want to do that-it has 340,000 miles.

I really need to get the most money I can for it cause money is really tight right now.

All suggestions welcome!

Regards,
Andrea

Junkyard you'll be lucky to see $400.00. I would craigslist it, start high (within reason) and you can come down from there.

OK! Good to know! Do you know if you can trade parts with an F350? Thanks, Andrea

A lot of parts will interchange.

I'd part it out. You'll make more that way.

VERY VERY TRUE. Some places like the great city of Virginia Beach won't allow that sort of thing though so I guess that could come into play. Fines for an unregistered/insured vehicle would kill any profits quick.

You can junk the title.

We have one of those good ole Guvmnt things where people actually drive around the city looking for expired tags, expired inspections, and the like and give you 7 days to correct the violation. If not they come tow it out of your yard or driveway, then send you the bill and fine.

Sounds like a nice democratic town you live in

One way around a lot of stupid ordinances, usually, is put a cover over it. It is trespassing if they go onto your property to check for expired tags. Cover it up and you'll be fine.

Most all the parts interchange. I'm sure you could strip off parts you think you need, then advertise on cl about a diesel truck for parts, and it would sell within a week.

Another thing, did you transfer the plate from your 250 onto your new truck, or did you register the new truck. If you got new plates for new truck, and the registration is still good on the old one, you have no issue. If you canceled your insurance, then you can either claim your homeowners covers "stored vehicles" or put "storage insurance", or "fire and theft" on it for like $25 a year

It can't be too difficult to get around the system.

I'd LOVE to park it in a locked chain link enclosure (like dog pen) and cover it.

I'd like to see them screw with it then!

Democratic doesn't even begin to cover the city ord's here, lol. There's been cases of a neighbor calling and complaining on people with a vehicle in their back yard and the city coming in and removing the vehicle, fining the owner, and charging the removal to them. Yea, that bad. Virginia actually has a system that checks vehicles that are licensed to make sure they have insurance. If its still registered with no insurance, they will suspend your license. While I was still in the Navy, I transferred to Florida. Only had a couple months left on the tags on the truck so I just let them run out. Licensed everything in Florida and insured them there. Got sent back to Norfolk again 4 yrs later. Went to switch all the stuff back to VA, and couldn't because their records showed I was delinquent on my insurance for the truck 4 yrs back and had to prove to them that the truck was insured in Florida 4 yrs prior before they would drop the $500.00 uninsured motorist fine and un-suspend my old VA drivers license. Lot of good people here, but WAY TOO MANY government pricks that live off the system. Most of these civil-servants are no more than working-welfare. Sorry about the rant. Getting almost as bad as Marylandistan and The Socialist Republic of California.

That's a real easy way to get shot around here.

Yea, lived outside of Murfreesboro for 4 yrs. I liked it there.

Truck Guy99 05-29-2014 06:22 PM

That's why I refuse to live in the city. Too much crap to deal with.
