I had to try it E85
 

I took my trailer 60 miles north of here to get the axles aligned today, on the way home I put 26 gal of E 85 in it. My Torque App said I had 9.8% ethanol when I started and 51% after I fueled. I was a very windy day and going I drove into a wind hitting me in the front quarter 42 miles of the trip going home it was opposite. Going I averaged 7.4 into the wind (25 to 35 mph) and coming home after the E85 fill it averaged 5.7 with less power than I had at 9500 ft, I live at 2000 ft. It ran great but the low milage and no power didn't make the 57.9 cents savings but I had to try. Maybe empty it will do better.

I tried a tank full. My average mpg dropped from my normal, but impressively phenomenal 12.3 to an astounding 11.8. All empty. I didn't notice any real difference in power out of my fuel wasting behemoth. It's always very windy here, mostly flat with rolling hills.

I will be using the rest of it driving around empty so I will see how it does, I guarantee it won't be in there when on September 1st when we leave for the winter.

Just so I'm clear...you got 5.7mpg with E85 and a 25-35mph tailwind?

When I was retuning home the wind was hitting my rear quarter for 42 miles and the front quarter for 16. The wind was out of the NW and I was heading south for the 42 miles going back home and west for 16. When I was heading west the truck had no power and stayed in 4th for most of it, when I was heading out of town and going north into the NW wind I had no problem staying in 5th. Also remember I was pulling our 16K trailer.

I ran one tank of E85 with the 5 Star 93 perf tune and it made good power but got just above 10 empty. 320 miles on the tank and I filled up with 31.9xxx gallons.

Another time I did the same thing on the 87 perf tune. Mileage was almost identical, it just made less power.

This is flat, windless central FL and there was absolutely no savings to run E85. My normal mileage on 87 is in the high 13s.

Hi all I just finished off a tank of E85 on my 2012 F250 with CC and 3.73 gears. Its a FX4 package. A will say that in the San Jose area E85 was not cheaper than Regular gas go figure that one... I was happy with the acceleration of the truck running it. Mostly Highway with about 500-700 Lbs of gravel in the bed. I was getting 12.5 to 13.5 MPG. That same run with Regular I'd get 14.5-15.00+
depending on speed. I Usually keep the cruise set to 70.
So Its less mileage and the same amount of power. I'll be sticking with regular gas. The only performance part I have is the K&N aircleaner which I'll be getting rid of shortly to check MPG's with the stock cleaner. Just my findings. Good luck out there.

E85 saves countless lives by keeping us out of the Middle East. Until the government gets out of bed with Big Oil, ethanol will always be second. It does however provide 1000's of jobs for Americans, provides stable prices for corn and the livestock that eat corn, and keeps the small towns afloat across the midwest.

It isn't the ideal fuel blend for vehicles on the road. 20-25% is the sweet spot for performance and mileage.

Oh boy. Here we go....

The government is just as involved with corn. Just look at the subsidizes and regulations for fuel mixtures.. The same argument could be made for CNG as well.

Just get me back to $1.00/gal and I'll be happy.:-jammin

I use E85 from time to time, regular was $3.68 E85 was $2.48 so for my daily driving back and fourth to work, the 11.5 mpg vs 12.5 I think I do ok for the $1.20 less per gallon.

Or at least it feels better at the pump

To really get the full affect of E85, you need to run at least one tank of 100%.

Can E85 be used in a carburetor truck?
I never thought about it till I read this thread.
I run it time to time in my Raptor but I have never given it a chance.

I've run a lot of E10 through trucks with carburetors and the only problem was getting the fuel system clean so it would run right. I don't think E85 would work out all that great because the the truck will have no way of adjusting for it and I don't think the fuel system would hold up to it in the long run.
