MY TRUCK IS COMING UP AT AUCTION

2 Attachment(s)
They are going to auction my 2008 truck soon. if you don't recall me I hung on here for 4 and a half years. I'd still be here except a drunk old woman hit us and the insurance company totaled my truck. It's an 08 DRW lariat, maintained to the nth degree, 77000 miles and deleted and tuned since about 35,000. i put $6000 in the motor in 2013 including ARP head bolts, EGR block offs and new water pump and hoses. In 2012 I had a Ford tranny guy build the tranny for towing performance and reliability. The truck was running great when hit. The insurance adjuster insisted he coud see a bent spot in the frame and called it totaled. I had a different adjuster from another company inspect it and I looked at it as hard as I could. We both called BS on the decision. When the truck was at the Ford dealership the body shop manager told me he had given the adjuster an estimate of 15,000 using ford parts. Once the adjuster called it a total the guy changed his story. I don't know how adjusters work but I think if ford could fix the truck for 15 K Bubba's body shop and beer emporiam could do it for 8.

Anyway if you're interested it is on the Insurance Auto Auctions web site, stock number 12741758 and it's in fort myers fl. You can register for free but because the truck is in florida you must have a dealers license to bid. Oh yeah, I took the tuner out but the engine is tuned back to stock so you could add a DPF, remove the EGR blocks and drive it home. Or you could put a tuner on it which would be better. just thought I'd post this in case somebody had the equipment and time to fix it. Stan

I think someone will come out way ahead...whoever gets your truck! Sooooo now that you've had your '14 a little while....what do you think of it?? Did she make you forget about your 6.4??

StanleyZ 04-26-2014 11:57 AM

Not at all. It's too quite and I can't make it smoke. }> I would say that stock it is way ahead of the stock 08. I think they have the emmissions technolgy considerably more refined on the 6.7L. But, i think that my 08 as it was the last day it ran had a bit more umph than this truck. To be fair though I've only towed from florida to ATL with it and driven it around town. It has a 3.73 rear axle not a 4.30 like the 08 had. It has some turbo lag when goosed from a stop. Not as much as a stock 08 though. So, all in all I'd say I'm happy with the new truck but I wouldn't have bought one if the accident hadn't occured. And it has some really cool electronic stuff to play around with.

one of those bitter sweet situations.. makes me hate people that drink and drive!! Glad you got situated with the new ride... now on tap...is every1 contemplating the new 15's...and if there worth it!

I've been in many 6.4's and 6.7's, and to me it seems like the major changes were from 2007 to 2008, meaning 2008 to 2014 seem to me that they are so similar, it's not really worth upgrading. Unless you had a stock 6.4 and couldn't tune it, then the 6.7 is a decent upgrade.
Some of you guys like spending a lot more money on vehicles than I do lol.

According to StanleyZ's signature, the truck was deleted and tuned. If someone where to purchase the truck and rebuild, I assume they would:

a)need to purchase a tuner capable of reprogramming ECU, or
b)install a DPF

I did not see this information in the auction listing.

That is correct.

I left two notes in the truck explaining what anyone who wanted to run it would need to do. I reset it to stock so the truck would of course, start without the DPF or tuner but would try immediatley to begin cleaning.

Outside our small group of owners and mechanics there do not appear to be many people who have any clue about this technology. I was visiting a friend in Miami last winter who is on his second VW TDI and he had no clue about the technology. So, I doubt seriously that the adjuster knew to put that info in the ad. In fact as I recall they have it listed as a "gasoline" powered vehicle. Now when someone knowledgeable gets it they should be presently suprised when they find the ARP studs and the EGR block offs. I'm thinking from that they will be able to figure the rest out. Or maybe they will find one of the notes I left. Then when they look under and find that big azzed tranny pan they should be able to figure the rest out.

Somebody will repair that truck and get many year of use from it. It should not have been totaled and I had two experts look at it that agree with me. But, I guess in the insurance business whatever that adjuster says goes.
