Air pump removal

I'd like to replace my air pump with just a pulley to eliminate it or can I just gut the insides of mine. It makes a weird sound on startup and I think while driving.
Serpentine belt

Hey! Another Islander! I'm just a bit north of you!

I'm looking to do the same. If you search I posted a question about this a while back, and there were some good replies. Mine makes noise too. Sounds like a rod knocking in the engine, but its not...

I tried new belts tonite. The 97" one was too long. I swapped 2 others and Lordco closed. Grabbed 3 more shorter ones on the way out to try tomorrow.

I went off info in air pump delete threads on here for that 97"

Keep in mind that the routing and length will vary between the 5.0L and 5.8L as well as between the high and low mount tensioner FEAD's on each.

I wrote up a tutorial on it here.

Never heard that term ever.
Finally got it bypasses with a shorter 90.5" belt.
Didn't even remove air pump. Just took out bottom 2 bolts , loosened the top pivot one, pushed hard out of the way and cranked down bolt. Loose bolts went back in holes so if I ever needed I'll keep old belt behind seat and put it all back together.
