Old vs new 7.3. Looking for info
I'm back to the annoying mind battle of a 408 stroker vs a 7.3 diesel for my new engine in my 96' Bronco. Stroker is just, rebuild current engine, put it in, happy jolly blah blah.
Other option is to put the bronco body on a shortened f250/350 frame with a 7.3 diesel in it. I know the swap is possible with just a stock bronco frame, set the motor in, box the frame, new running gears, etc. My thought however is just to do a whole frame swap, so then I have the upgraded axles, stronger frame, stronger drivetrain, etc. The only question I have left is what 7.3 to choose from. 94.5-97 OBS 7.3 PSD or 99-03 PSD/SD 7.3. What I know so far: OBS: 15* HPOP, mechanical fuel, no intercooler, single shot injector NBS/SD: 17* HPOP, e-fuel, intercooled, split shot injector, 4r100 trans (stronger than the E4OD) Questions: Upgrade ability? Chips/tuners, turbochargers, OBS will need e-fuel/intercooler electronics. Can a 94.5-97 harness fit a 99-03 engine? I hear the SD dash is larger, so it would require more modification to fit all needed electronics/computer/cluster in my current dash. Any other information is greatly appreciated! :-X03 |
How about finding an IDI OBS for the chassis swap? No electronics, easy to service, turbos can make some pretty good power. A F350 would be nice if you were into making the Bronco front end solid.
