5L?
We are doing an oil cahange on a 92 van and 5L only fills to the add line!

Depends on how many miles since oil was added. Starts out at 5 quarts and rapidly works it way to 1 quart within 1000 miles.

It sounds to me like you changed the filter at the same time (which is a good idea).

The filter may account for the extra quart.

Footnote: I'm a strong believer in keeping extra fluids in a vehicle's trunk or toolbox in case of unforseen losses. A quart or a pint of everything is enough for a well put together machine.

If you got it from a used car dealer - buy an oil well...

How much oil does a Dodge 318 hold?
 
Most 318s take 5 quarts (owned and worked on 318s), except maybe vans because they have a different pan. You do have to run it, shut it off, and let it sit for 1/2 an hour to get an accurate read after doing an oil change.
