I finally changed out my stock shocks (60k miles on them) with rancho 9000s. I have to say, she rides just like a caddy! Well, maybe not, but almost as nice as the wife's EXPY. I live in a community with big speed bumps and I used to have go 3mph over them or I would lose kidney, but now I can atleast drive speed limit of 25.

Very happy so far, I will be towing with them next month, so we will see how they do. But, since I usually drive empty, that was my main concern.

This is good to hear. I have a full set of 9000s on the way to replace my warn out 7000s which were great.

You mean to say you are getting a more comfy ride out of a SD, without giving up stability? From what I have heard its not possible. Good to hear. Look forward to after you do some towing.

Soft shocks have nothing to do with stability or towing. Shocks are not weight bearing. Worn shocks will affect stability, but soft is different.

Conversations on shocks always confuse me. I have a 2013 F350 Supercab Long Bed with 20" wheels and 11,500 GVWR original rancho branded shocks. It is mostly empty right now (Leer topper and beed platform + camping/golf gear. It rides rough in that speed bumps are transmitted to the cabin 1:1 as are most other bumps of size. I have always believed that this is because the springs are made to carry more weight and there fore do not compress much going over bumps when the truck is empty. In other words, the shocks have very little to do. But, there are stories like this one where new Rancho 9000s turn a SD into a soft riding hauler. I would spring $400 if I thought the ride would smooth out but I just don't think it will.

What's the truth? How can I tell before actually spending the time and money?

Today, I ran setting 5 in the front and 3 in the rear. That was too soft. I will change it tomorrow to 7 front and 7 rear, let's see how that goes. Really the biggest difference comes when going over all the bigger bumps, curbing (Miami drainage curbing) pot holes, etc.. She still bounces like a 350 on the rough roads, just a little less "after shocks or bounces" .. For me, the speed bumps alone were worth ( I drive over 9 just to get out of my neighborhood)


I paid $270 (AFTER) the rancho rebate from autoeverything.com That was a great deal.

K - I bit the bullet on them too - 4wheelparts $327 for 4 --- and will send in the $100 rebate for $227 !
I let them install them since I don't do manual labor anymore :)

Have to say even set at the middle setting they slow down the 'Yumps' on the way home... Thinking they damp the compression such that it didn't bounce off the air bags and/or bump stops like it used to... much more 'relaxed' compression and expansion...

will start playing with the settings when I hook up the 5er...


but given the pic of the shocks that came off @ 14,000 miles with only 1 of 4 not staying collapsed .... !!!

I like my 9K's. Being able to adjust the ride is super nice!

Will they fit a DRW?

Snowseeker - first had the 9k's on my Ex's so hoped it would work on the 350 :)

but they stopped offering the in-cab adjustor :(
I spoke to them and they said they are coming out with something but not sure when...

I recently installed the 9000's also & I have never been happier with the ride of my SD :-jammin
Setting's I like are = 6 Front & 5 Rear

After 4 months still liking the 9000's....
towed the heavy 5er 2000+ miles from dfw to Hilton Head, SC and back with settings @ 9...
and except for some HORRIBLE JUMPS on I-20 in Shreveport and some town in Mississippi it rode like a champ...

in fact, still does and I've been too lazy to get under it and turn the shocks back down to comfort settings so far ...

I just put a full set of RS9000 XLs on my 2003 Supercab Short Bed 4x4 last weekend. I left them set at 5 or 6, whatever they came out of the box (all 4 the same) and I have been very pleased so far. I am running 315/75R16 tires and the stock replacement shocks just didn't seem up to the task. I am looking forward to seeing how these Ranchos handle off-highway driving.
