Can’t find the OBDI Port on my 1997 Ford F350 5.8L E40D Transmission…
Hi everyone,
I am kinda new to this forum and have been lerking for a while now, and really like the site... I bought this truck form a local town government fleet. It has 101,000 and the transmission is hard shifting… In my research I found that one of the 1st things to do as a diagnostic tool would be to check for codes… Got under the dash and, if there is one under there, I cannot find a OBDI port to plug into… Has anyone ever seen one of these without a port, or could it located somewhere else? Also, does anyone know what this part is, and shouldn’t it have something hooked up to it? Any input would be very helpful. Thanks... http://i975.photobucket.com/albums/a...c/DSCN1455.jpg http://i975.photobucket.com/albums/a...c/DSCN1456.jpg |
OBD1 ports are under the hood, usually on the firewall near the PCM. OBD 2 ports are under the dash near the steering column as per regulation.
The last of the old generation Super Duty trucks were weird birds. It's probably an EEC-IV PCM and the connector is under the hood. |

I do think it is located around the driver hood hinge area .

I can only guess that it's part of the secondary air injection system, part of the emissions control system.
Keep in mind that, if it's an EEC-IV processor, your modern scan tool will be useless. |

Also, what kind of reader do I need to pull some codes, as the OBD2 is nowhere to be found under the dash in the usual place.. |
OBDI ports were all under the hood. Ford never made the 5.8L OBDII compliant.
