Injector question.

Let me fill in some of the details.
I went against my own rules and got some thing from China.

The VCMII and the IDS to go with it. (I know BAD SEAN)

Anyway to my injector question. I have seen a bit of stiction when cold
out side and the engine is cold. Once it warmed up seems all good.

Well today I went out any played with the VCMII and ran the power balance
test and the uncompensated one also. What I saw was the #8 injector was
really dipping down at 1200RPM high idle. At normal idle the line was flat.
The engine was not fully warmed up. It was at about 130º~150º EOT

Once I find out how to save the movies I will post the screen.

So the question is take #8 out and clean it or just replace it?
BTW FICM is a nice solid 48 V.

Does it get better when it is up to temp or is there still an issue?

Polish the spool and re-run the test.

What is the link to the China IDS module?

The jumpy #8 settles down after it is warmed up.
I'll have to go back and look at the saved live data
to check bit I did see some of the others getting a
bit bumpy after it warmed up.

I think that pulling and cleaning is going to be in the project
list for this spring. If and when it quits raining every day.

I have a supplier I can order from.
Not bad if your only going to use now and then.
It did not come with the wireless or the flight recorder.
I know that the flight recorder can be ordered with it.

PM me if you want some more info.

If you are going to trouble with taking out #8 injectors to clean the spool and re O ring the injector, why not do all 4 on the same bank?

Yahiko 03-18-2014 01:23 AM

I think that is going to be the working plan. If I am going
to dig into the valve cover I may as well do the side.

Here is an image of the power balance test. I may be
better off doing all 8 at this point. That test was run at 190º EOT.

Comments from our pros are more than welcome.

Looks like 1,7 and 8 need some TLC

I was gonna say the same thing. More 1 and 7 than 8. Might as well pull them all and give them a polish Sean.

Little kid (boy) next door is going to come over and say
"What's you doing mister?" I will answer with
"Polishing my spools" Where was I going with that?

Anyway back to the question. I guess I should run the relative
compression test also. Not that having unhappy injectors won't
skew it somewhat. At least I think it would a bit. I may be wrong.

Is polishing the spools a tried and trued method of fixing stiction?.

As tried and true as it's going to get.

drive her easy when its sticking, a hotter burn in that cyl. due to lean fuel can melt a piston...dont ask me how I know.

Yahiko 03-18-2014 05:02 PM

The foot stays out of it till I get up to normal temps.

I would be curious how well polishing the spools does for the injectors at operating temps. Plenty has been said and done about polishing the spools and cold stiction, but not much on possible stiction at operating temps.

Well now that I have the tool I guess we can find out.
One thing I do want to try before I start scrubbing on
thin is to see if Seafoam will remove any of the varnish.
